Many of us are being left behind by a broken mental health system. The scale of the challenge is huge, but with political and systemic change, we can create a future where no mind is left behind. That’s why for World Mental Health Day 2024 we’re asking people to join us. Join our call on the new UK government to make mental health a priority. - Reform the outdated Mental Health Act - Raise the standard of mental health hospitals - Build a network of support hubs so young people can get mental health support before they reach crisis point - Support people with mental health problems to thrive at work - Make benefits assessments work for disabled people so everyone has a financial safety net when they need it https://lnkd.in/ekA95Zic #NoMindLeftBehind

It's World Mental Health Day. I read a statistic earlier that 2 million people in the UK are currently stuck on waiting lists for NHS mental health services. 2 MILLION. It’s upsetting that so many people - struggling, vulnerable, and often in crisis - are waiting so long for the help they need. I’ve been lucky enough to have had access to therapy on multiple occasions, but I'm very aware this is a privilege. Take a moment to sign Mind's ‘No Mind Left Behind’ petition, calling on the UK government to: Reform the outdated Mental Health Act Raise the standard of mental health hospitals Build a network of support hubs so young people can get mental health support before they reach crisis point Support people with mental health problems to thrive at work Make benefits assessments work for disabled people so everyone has a financial safety net when they need it https://bit.ly/3YrCznX Here are some links that could be helpful for you, or someone you know: https://lnkd.in/ghGtsmJK https://lnkd.in/giqm4sPA https://lnkd.in/gjSvtFa6 https://lnkd.in/ggBwfdAZ 💙

It's National #MinorityMentalHealth Awareness Month! Today, ACESWorld is shedding light on mental health challenges in the Caribbean community. In many Caribbean cultures, mental health issues are often misunderstood, stigmatized, and dismissed. The stigma of being labeled as "crazy" prevents many from seeking the help they need, leading to untreated mental health conditions. Therapy is often seen as unnecessary or even shameful. There is a lack of understanding about the seriousness of mental health issues and support systems may be limited due to cultural beliefs and misconceptions. Poor mental health can have a ripple effect, leading to chronic disease, substance abuse, and reduced life expectancy. It's crucial to break the stigma and promote mental health awareness within the Caribbean community. Share this post to join us in raising awareness and advocating for better mental health support for the Caribbean community. #MentalHealthMatters #EndTheStigma NAMI National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) BEAM (Black Emotional and Mental Health Collective)

#Stigma remains one of the biggest barriers to #mentalhealth care. Despite the prevalence of mental health conditions, many people face #discrimination, #isolation, and judgment, preventing them from seeking support. Stigma exists in every aspect of life—from home and school to the workplace and healthcare settings. This resource from PAHO FOUNDATION - PAN AMERICAN HEALTH ORGANIZATION FOUNDATIONexplains how to break the stigma and create a more supportive environment for those on their mental health journey. #EndTheStigma #MentalHealthMatters #SupportNotStigma #DoYourShare

Mental health gaps are the difference between the need for mental health services and what is available. The World Health Organization's (WHO) Mental Health Gap Action Programme (mhGAP) is an action plan to address these gaps. The program aims to improve access to mental health services in low- and middle-income countries, where 75% of people with mental health conditions often don't receive treatment.

46% of the people in the EU has experienced emotional or psychosocial problems within 12 Months. Yet 54% of respondents with a mental health issue have not received help from a professional. This is what a 2023 study by the European Union has shown. Sadly, I don’t see this changing anytime soon. The majority (62%) attributed their mental health struggles to recent global events. I also don’t see enough initiatives to tackle the second part of the problem: Access to mental health support. People face long waiting lists, a shortage of qualified professionals or the simple fact that they can’t afford the support they need. Just imagine you finally made the crucial and very hard first step to seek out help, and you realise you can’t even access it. At nilo.health we are making access to quality mental health support as easy as possible. We can’t eliminate external stressors, but we can support individuals in navigating them. #mentalhealth #healthcare #preventivecare

The Importance of Community Support for People with Mental Health Conditions Mental health conditions can affect anyone, and it’s crucial for communities to be aware of the challenges and needs faced by those living with these conditions. People suffering from mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, and other disorders need ongoing medical and community support. To reduce stigma surrounding mental health, we must understand that mental health conditions are not personal failures but medical conditions that require treatment and support. Healthy communities are those that provide understanding, care, and help for individuals facing these challenges. I encourage everyone to work together to create compassionate communities where individuals with mental health conditions feel confident and supported. This makes it easier for them to access appropriate care and helps them reintegrate into community life and the workforce. It is our responsibility to help others understand that mental health is a critical part of overall well-being, and we must work to reduce stigma and misconceptions surrounding it.

Let's focus on building a culture of understanding and support. Here are some important reminders: - Mental health affects everyone, either directly or indirectly. - Mental health is just as important as physical health. - Mental illness is not a weakness or a personal failing. - Seeking help is a sign of strength. - Recovery is possible with the right support and resources. Let's work together to create a society where people feel comfortable opening up about their struggles and seeking help when needed. Here are some resources available in Canada: - Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) - Mental Health Commission of Canada (MHCC) - Crisis Text Line (text 686868) - Your healthcare provider or family doctor Remember, every conversation matters, and every support system counts. Let's prioritize mental health and create a brighter future for all! 💚 #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth #MentalHealthSupport #BreakTheStigma

Dear Keir Starmer and New Labour Government, congratulations on the new job! I'm certain your plate is full, but we're here to ensure this stays a top priority; Our mental health system is straining under pressure and desperately needs reform. The current setup is outdated, failing to provide the diverse support options that many people require. Let's push for reforming the outdated Mental Health Act, whilst expanding mental health support options to ensure a more tailored approach for each individual's needs. Let’s urge for quicker therapy appointments, enhanced crisis intervention, and more effective prevention methods; which are essential steps in improving our mental health system. It's time to prioritise the mental health of our nation, and create a system that truly supports and uplifts those in need. #mentalhealthreform #mentalhealthuk #labour #labourgoverment #timeforchange #mentalhealthact
