A Boston Consulting Group (BCG) analysis found that nearly 10% of CFOs at top companies leave their role within a year after they start the job. And more than 50% have left by the end of the fifth year. If you're feeling ready to make a move, don't beat yourself up about it! Contact me so I can help you write an awesome resumé that will get you hired quickly!

Traditionally, to land at a job at a premier consulting firm like McKinsey or Accenture would have required a degree from a prestigious university, now, the big consulting firms are leaning into hiring for proven skill. They’re “pivoting from pedigree to potential,” and as McKinsey’s website bluntly states, “We hire people, not degrees.” Meritocracy is a new trend in hiring, and these big consultancies are leading the way. You may hear this ethos referred to as “skills-based hiring” or “skills-first hiring.” The basic idea is that, if you have the right skills for the job, it really doesn’t matter where you got them. As a recruiter at MS Capital, I can testify that not every company has caught up to the idea of prioritizing skills over pedigree, but the general trend is moving in that direction. This is good news for those who may not have had the deep pockets or the connections to attend an Ivy League. The truth is, you can get a great education at a community college. After all, that’s where Steve Jobs got his.

Two of my candidates got offers this week for McKinsey and Kearney Middle East. Both were medical practitioners with no prior consulting experience. For any experienced hires thinking of transitioning into consulting, here are the key things to focus on: 1. Start early. Think of it as a 3-6 month process. It’s more of a marathon than a sprint, where you need to gradually build your case and personal fit skills sustainably in parallel to having a job. 2. Go broad. The consulting market is tough for hiring at the moment. Don’t apply for 2 firms. Apply for 12. Think about it as a diversified portfolio. Your objective is to get as far as you can with as many firms as possible. 3. Craft your story. Have a clear WHY to explain your transition into consulting, which should also transpire through your cover letter. Your CV should do a great job of highlighting any work that you’ve done that signals ‘consultant-like’ skills. If you have any questions on experienced hire moves into consulting, feel free to drop them below or reach out. Good luck! #experiencedprofessionals #consultingjobs #consultinginterviews

🎉 Excited to share that I have completed the Strategy Consulting Job Simulation with BCG, In the simulation I: * Completed a job simulation where I advised a hypothetical local telco company, Company X, facing a decline in profits * Conducted market research to determine the feasibility of the proposed solution * Used excel to build a model to predict the potential profitability of the proposed solution * Communicated a summary of key findings in a clear presentation to stakeholders This program allowed me to sharpen my analytical and problem-solving skills, all while diving deep into real-world strategy consulting tasks. I’m eager to apply these learnings to future challenges and continue growing in this field. #StrategyConsulting #DataAnalysis #MarketResearch #ClientSolutions #BCG #CareerGrowth #ProblemSolving #ConsultingLife #OpenToOpportunities #JobSimulation #Forage Check out the simulation here: https://lnkd.in/gF34YHtw
