Today, I’m incredibly excited to announce I’ve entered into an agreement to sell Orangefin Ventures to Sol Strategies Inc., a publicly traded holding company on the Canadian Securities Exchange (CSE: HODL) and on the OTC Market (OTC: CYFRF). As part of the acquisition, I will be joining Sol Strategies as their new head of staking. As we enter 2025, I’ll be embarking on my 8th year working full time in this crazy industry we call crypto. During that time, I’ve been privileged to have so many highs and lows. From helping Kraken grow from 100 to 3,000 people, to watching Bitcoin quite literally 100x, today marks the happiest moment of my career. When starting Orangefin just over a year ago, many told me I was crazy for focusing on Solana. Sentiment around it was near rock bottom. Despite all of that though, Solana had two major things that I had never seen before in all my years in crypto: rock solid tech and a community made up of some of the smartest engineers I have ever met. To me, it was a no-brainer to focus on Solana. Watching Orangefin grow from quite literally the smallest validator on the entire Solana network to a fully ISO 27001 certified business with $120M in assets under delegation has been nothing short of amazing. There is truly no company I’d feel more comfortable entrusting with Orangefin Ventures than Sol Strategies, due to our shared passion for Solana and blockchain infrastructure in general. I’ve noticed a lot of buzz lately about Fun.pump, a memecoin launchpad on Solana, reportedly pulling in nine-figure revenues—outpacing many top DeFi protocols and even some Layer 2 solutions. It’s so lucrative that even Justin Sun jumped on board with his own version, Sunpump. While this might be a win for the Pump.fun founders, the outlook isn’t as rosy for the memecoins launched on Solana. Despite nearly 1.2 million tokens being deployed on Solana-based protocols, only 32 of them have a market cap exceeding $1 million, according to GeckoTerminal.
