Who are the Madonnas in your organisation? You may or may not have missed the miniscule controversy about Madonna on tour, holding on to a safety bar whilst dancing on a moving platform 20ft high. Was she holding on to a safety bar during her dance routine? I don't know but if so, so what? This is not a post about what Madonna should or shouldn't be doing at her age. However, the story got me thinking about how organisations unlock the potential of a multi-generational organisation. Madonna is 65 years which makes her a part of the Baby Boomer generation Madonna's career started in 1979, meaning she has had an active career for a little over 45 years now Madonna has grossed an estimated $1.2b on the road in the career (Source: Forbes) Madonna clearly chooses to continue writing, singing, dancing and making a living doing what she wants 💡 There are many Madonnas in your organisation, they may not have brought in $1.2b but they have and continue to add value. ✔ Their needs might have changed over time ✔ The support they require may be specific ✔ The benefits they desire are certainly different ✔ They have more to contribute than 'just' the wisdom and knowledge they possess ✔ Create opportunities for them to thrive like you would for your younger or emerging talent ✔ Include them in technologically centered discussions. ✔ Make no assumptions about their capabilities. #agediversity #multigenerationalworkforce #diversityandinclusion #leadershipcoaching
