Farmed animals make up 62% of the world’s mammal biomass, while humans account for 34%, and wild mammals are just 4%. This stark reality highlights the vast number of animals born into a life of suffering and slaughter, often for animal food items that are not necessary for us to survive and thrive. We have spent so many years consuming animal products that it has become normalized, to the point where meals without these items are often not seen as complete.
However, human nutritional requirements can easily be met through plant-based foods. Nuts, seeds, legumes, grains, and even vegetables provide ample protein. Foods like tofu, tempeh, lentils, and more can offer all the healthy sustenance that humans need, yet our grocery culture prioritizes animal-based foods. We can change this by embracing non-exploitation and non-violence, promoting plant-based nutrition, and going vegan.
