Here's something light for your Friday. I loved this article about Nich Bazik opening Provenance in Philly. Jason Sheehan is a fantastic writer and tells a great story. What was wonderful to read was Nich's view on working in a restaurant. He designed his restaurant to be a joy to work in. There's no yelling, there's no manufactured stress, there's adequate space and good tools. We see so often both fictionalized and in real life the chaos, yelling, and stress of a kitchen. Nich believes it doesn't have to be that way. He's betting on doing things differently and so far it seems to be paying off. That resonated with me. One of the reasons me and my partner started AV MSP was to change things in the AV industry - better for customers and, especially, better for workers. In the AV business, we idolize the road warriors, late nights, and chaotic chases to the finish. We go without meals, sleep, and spending time with loved ones. Early in my career, I would often be gone until late on a Friday night with little time to myself. It doesn't have to be like that. Work can serve both customers and employees providing the service. It's a matter of caring to do so. It's not enough to pay people well, they have to have a complete life to be happy. Happy Friday.
