My husband got a 266% salary increase when he pivoted from nonprofit into tech.
And then he got an additional 50% salary increase a year later when he pivoted to a different tech company.
Overnight success?
Nope.
He worked his butt off in the non-profit world for 7 years, making very little money but taking massive pride in his work and learning and growing as much as he could.
Dumb luck?
Nope.
He worked his butt off to land both of those roles. He hired a career coach who specializes in pivots, he sent hundreds of DMs and emails and texts, he networked like crazy, he had loads of informational interviews, and he prepped the crap out of every single interview.
The moral:
1. If you’re not where you want to be, figure out where you want to go and stop at nothing to get there. It could take 1, 5, 10 etc years. You’ll only fail if you give up.
2. If you’re hiring, make sure you’re open to candidates from non-traditional backgrounds. They’re hungry, they’re hustlers, and they’ll slay when you hire them.
They might even close Q1 at 150% to goal like my genius husband just did 🙌🏼
The only way to fail is to stop trying.
