🏈 The Battle of Football Philosophies: 49ers vs. Chiefs 🏈 In the upcoming clash between the San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs, we're not just witnessing a game between two talented teams, but a battle of ideologies that goes to the very heart of football. On one side, we have the 49ers, a team built on the foundation of a strong running game, a stout defense, and a commitment to the traditional values of physicality and toughness. Coach Kyle Shanahan has crafted a team culture that emphasizes discipline and balance, with players like Christian McCaffrey and Deebo Samuel embodying the 49ers' ethos. On the other side, we have the Chiefs, a team that has redefined offensive football in the modern era. Under the guidance of Andy Reid, the Chiefs have unleashed a pass-happy, high-octane offense that thrives on the creativity and improvisational skills of quarterback Patrick Mahomes. The Chiefs' philosophy is all about speed, agility, and explosive plays. As these two ideologies collide on the field, we can expect a fascinating strategic battle. The 49ers will likely try to control the clock and keep Mahomes off the field, while the Chiefs will look to strike quickly and put pressure on the 49ers' defense. Which philosophy will prevail? Will it be the old-school toughness of the 49ers or the new-age firepower of the Chiefs? Share your thoughts in the comments below and let's discuss this epic showdown of football ideologies! #NFLPlayoffs #49ersvsChiefs #FootballPhilosophies #Shanahan #Reid #Mahomes

Who else out there is ready for some National Football League (NFL) 🏈?!! I'm still riding a high from last season's finish, remembering all the love Travis Kelce, Andy Reid, and many others showed for my guy Michael Frazier after KC's overtime Super Bowl win (https://lnkd.in/gbR5H6dq). You see, while Frazier taught the OT strategy to the Chiefs coaches and players in the run-up to the Super Bowl, I taught him how to solve the decision-making problem way back in 2011, when we were both with the Eagles. There was a major change in the playoff OT rules that year too. A few days before our game against the Packers, Coach Reid had Frazier work with me to figure out what to do if we go to OT. While other teams apparently threw up their hands at the problem (see, for example, the discussion of the Jaguars in this The New York Times story in 2012 https://lnkd.in/gDk7sHHD), I showed Frazier how to write out the game tree, combine data and assumptions to fill it out, and then solve backwards for the optimal strategy at each decision point. Working with Frazier was the key to specifying the most credible assumptions from Coach Reid's perspective. To my mind, that was analytics work at its best. If not for a nullified 2-point conversion late in the 4th, that game was probably going to OT. I remember being so fired up about it at the time, while Frazier, up in the booth and in Coach's ear, told me he was...well...it was a big responsibility for a young guy. We lost that game, which turned out to be the last playoff game in Philly for each of us. It was my last season in the front office. Coach, Frazier, and the rest of the staff were gone a couple seasons later. But they took the methodology with them to KC. We would exchange texts about it after games when KC went to OT. Frazier understood how to update the model for each matchup, and then he figured out how to overhaul it when the rules were changed again two years ago. That helped them win last year's amazing Super Bowl! As Travis Kelce says in the linked Michael David Smith piece: "It’s Frazier coming up big...They’ve got to get a Frazier in San Fran." Clearly, I'm extremely proud of all he's accomplished and of the part I played way back when. I always knew it was valuable work, and it was great to see the huge payoff. Now, if somehow you're wondering who I'm rooting for tonight, there should be no doubt. Gotta be KC in OT! Let's go!!!

How can you win an National Football League (NFL) Super Bowl if you don't know the rules of the game you're playing? I just read a piece from ESPN in which many of the 49ers players admitted they did not know the overtime rules in the NFL post-season were different than the regular season. Some said they only realized the difference when they read the rules on the scoreboard after the OT coin toss. As a leader and alignment fanatic, this makes my head explode. Unlike the regular season where a touchdown wins the game, in the post-season both teams get possession of the ball no matter how the first team fairs with their possession. Clearly this could impact strategy. As it turns out, the rule difference would not have impacted the outcome of the game as played, because the Niners could only pull off a field goal before handing over the ball, but it was basic, critical information that did not get the alignment it demanded in the game prep. If the rules were better understood, would the Niners have deferred and taken the ball second? Who knows? So if you are a leader reading this, what SHOULD get your attention is that very rarely to ALL the players have ALL of the same info to have a chance at clarity and the alignment you seek in the name of winning results. #leadership #optimization #teamdynamics #clarity #alignment

There has been some discussion whether NRL players salaries should be publicly accessible as part of the salary cap should . I was very interested to read this article of NBA COACHES SALARIES compared to other coaches & both their teams players salaries & also to a league wide pay level comparison with all NBA players. Is it a big deal not to list salaries when there is a salary cap consideration and the players share of revenue is rising. Public servants have pay scales publicised. Interesting.

After a 19-year gap, the NFL has finally crowned a team as the champion for two consecutive years. The Kansas City Chiefs solidified their status as a contemporary dynasty in the league by securing their third Super Bowl victory in five seasons. They achieved this feat with a 25-22 overtime triumph against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. Similar to the previous two games for Kansas City and their exceptional quarterback Patrick Mahomes, this game also featured an impressive comeback in the second half and, on this occasion, some remarkable late heroics in overtime. Jake Moody's 27-yard field goal during the initial possession of overtime gave the 49ers a lead of 22-19. However, the Chiefs countered with a 13-play, 75-yard drive and secured victory with a 3-yard touchdown pass from Mahomes to Mecole Hardman. It was the most recent essential drive for Kansas City, a squad that has established a reputation with Mahomes as being most formidable while possessing the ball in the last moments. In the last moments of the fourth quarter, the Chiefs were behind by a score of 19-16. However, they managed to go 75 yards in 11 plays and Harrison Butker successfully made a 29-yard field goal. The pivotal moment during the drive occurred on a crucial third-and-7 situation with only 16 seconds remaining. Patrick Mahomes successfully connected with Travis Kelce on a crossing route, resulting in a significant 22-yard gain. This play positioned the Chiefs well for a straightforward field goal attempt. The Chiefs franchise has secured their fourth Super Bowl victory, with coach Andy Reid leading the team to their third championship. This achievement places Reid in a tie with Bill Walsh and Joe Gibbs for the third-most Super Bowl wins in history. Only Bill Belichick has won six Super Bowls, while Chuck Noll has won four. Patrick Mahomes wins 2024 Super Bowl MVP. What a great example of f The GC Index in the context of team sports from Nathan Ott when you harness the power of the five proclivities in concert to build and sustain momentum to achieve your objectives. The GC Index is a unique outcome-based people data intelligence business tool that aligns with your business cycle and objectives. I have been using it in the context of Change and Agile for a while. Perhaps some of you have read some past posts here on the platform or attended one of my talks at a conference or Meetup. It helps explain what are the drivers of an individual, team, or organization to achieving desired outcomes. It's different than psychometrics. It's an organimetric. Think of it as a missing piece to the puzzle. Personality - psychometrics (i.e. DISC & Strengths Finder) Skills & Experience - (i.e. What we can see when we look at LinkedIn profiles) Let's take me as an example. My GC Index profile is a Game Changer-Strategist. ⭐ Dominant Energy - Game Change where I have the energy for transformational change and original ideas/thinking. I find creative ways to achieve strategic goals. I am at my best when I focus my creative thinking on the enrichment of strategic objectives, bringing transformational possibilities to that endeavor. My Top 5 Strength's Finder (in order): -Strategist: People who are especially talented in the Strategic theme create alternative ways to proceed. Faced with any given scenario, they can quickly spot the relevant patterns and issues -Woo: People who are especially talented in the Woo theme love the challenge of meeting new people and winning them over. They derive satisfaction from breaking the ice and making a connection with another person. -Command: People who are especially talented in the Command theme have a presence. They can take control of a situation and make decisions. -Activator: People who are especially talented in the Activator theme can make things happen by turning thoughts into action. -Learner: People who are especially talented in the Learner theme have a great desire to learn and want to continuously improve. In particular, the process of learning, rather than the outcome, excites them. HERE IS THE KICKER.....Everything is driven by my Game-Changer energy which is about new ideas, doing different (which requires change), seeing opportunities that do not exist, and transformational futures. My Strategist and Woo strengths will look very different from someone who has a different dominant energy. My focus for continuous improvement is not about keeping the status quo, it's about changing it. Make sense? It gets even more interesting. The GC Index data is scalable where you can make smart people decisions in navigating change for Organizational Agility and Data Intelligent cultures that align to your business goals. #peopleanalytics #dataintelligence #change

When the trade deadline approaches, sellers look for ways to clear salary ahead of the approaching off-season. In many cases, that might mean salary tied to a very productive player. As teams reach the off-season, roster flexibility greatly increases. Or said another way: the incentive system for teams in the off-season is quite different than in-season, and teams behave accordingly. That’s what the Golden Knights figured out well before the rest of the league. As a perennial contender that has also dealt with some injury misfortune, they can reload talent at the trade deadline every year, and clean up their books in the summer when it’s easier to do so.

Posting about kids in sports is still trending on LinkedIn, right? #mondaymotivation Let me say out of the gate: His win is NOT my win. BUT… it’s still inspiring. My son injured his quad last week and was advised to not take free kicks and only play midfield from his PT. He started the tourney on Saturday but had to stop playing about halfway through his first match. He didn’t play the second match and rested the rest of the day. Sunday morning he tried out some kicks in our yard, but still felt those tinges of pain. He decided he shouldn’t play, but wanted to show up and support the team. We arrived at the field and, not surprisingly, he wanted to play. This third match was important: a draw or a win would mean they’d advance. Plus, the weather was pretty decent. He played, but modified his play. The team advanced and after a draw 1-1 game, draw in overtime and tied PK shootouts until the sixth kick, they WON. They all won, because they played as a team. Some kids stepped up, others, like my son stepped to the side and they figured out with their coach (but TOGETHER) how to win. 🏆 It’s not about the medals, that’s just a bonus. It’s about this lesson right here. May we all step up, step back or to the side on our teams to win. #motivation #teamwork #pivot #winningmindset
