As Rabbi Hillel would say, “if I am not for myself, who will be for me? If I am not for others, what am I?” Instead of trying to convince people to do something purely for someone else, organizers in the DART network train grassroots leaders to do what Rabbi Hillel alludes to: how to be both for themselves and for others. Organizers do this through building deep relationships with people to help them see how standing up for their own interest is interwoven with standing up for the interest of their community as a whole. By guiding individuals through discovering what it is that calls them to fight for justice, organizers help people articulate what they value or need – and how that relates to the needs of the community. Through doing so, they invite people to be in solidarity towards creating the kind of community that we all want: to be both for themselves and for others in the pursuit of justice. “In a city like Evanston, racism comes with a smile and a nod, masked behind progressive facades. But scratch the surface, and you'll find a small group pulling strings, dictating who falls in line and who faces consequences for questioning the status quo. My journey in advocating for direct cash payments as reparations has revealed uncomfortable truths about power dynamics and the lengths some will go to maintain control. Join me in uncovering the complexities of our city and why community engagement is more crucial than ever.” Uncover the full story and dive deep into the heart of the matter with our exclusive blog post on https://lnkd.in/gWncMSWH. A Super PAC dedicated to representing the American Descendants of Slavery is necessary to ensure this community has the resources to advocate for their rights. A Super PAC (Political Action Committee) is an independent expenditure-only committee that is able to raise unlimited funds from corporations, unions, individuals, and other groups to support or oppose political candidates or issues. The American Descendants of Slavery have faced generations of systemic racism and discrimination that have hindered their ability to achieve true equality and justice. In order to combat these injustices and advocate for their rights, it is crucial for this marginalized group to have a Super PAC dedicated to their cause. A Super PAC would provide the American Descendants of Slavery with the financial resources necessary to support political candidates who are committed to addressing issues such as police brutality, economic inequality, and educational disparities. With the backing of a Super PAC, this community would have a stronger voice in shaping policies and legislation that directly impact their lives. Furthermore, a Super PAC would allow the American Descendants of Slavery to mobilize and organize more effectively, amplifying their message and reaching a wider audience. By pooling their resources and working together, this community can increase their influence and visibility in the political sphere. #ChangePolicy ALT Text Donald Rivers standing in front of the Reverend Doctor Martin Luther King Memorial in Washington D.C.

It's been a busy final month of the year, and I continue to be grateful for such productive spaces and conversations that allow me to explore questions like: How can we navigate the tension between hyper-local solutions and national strategies? What happens when we break down silos and approach conflict as an opportunity? And how do we tackle one of our most urgent challenges—the spread of #disinformation? I hope you'll read what I had to say on these questions in our newest blog and share what questions you're thinking about in the comments. https://lnkd.in/einYzd-4
Over the past few weeks, our founder Allison K. Ralph, Ph.D. has had the privilege of attending (and facilitating) three dynamic convenings with Philanthropy for Active Civic Engagement (PACE), Inter-Movement Impact Project, and Peace and Security Funders Group exploring the state of democracy, pluralism, and polarization following our most recent election. These gatherings—spanning funder-only spaces, grantee-driven discussions, and broad civic conversations—surfaced four key themes with striking consistency. Each theme reminded us that division doesn’t have to be a terminal condition, and the conversations underscored how collective work can move us all forward. By working together, at the intersections of peace, democracy, and social cohesion, lies the potential to transform conflict into collaboration, continuing to #ExpandWhatsPossible. https://lnkd.in/e76Wx8wF

In 2020, Funders Initiative for Civil Society (FICS) carried out interviews with over 150 civil society activists, academics, and funders seeking to understand the deeper drivers which were closing civic space around the world. The abuse of national security powers was identified as the dominant driver set to further shrink civic space this decade, yet few funders focus on this issue. Our partner, Civic Futures, was co-founded by FICS and The Fund for Global Human Rights, to change this. Learn more about Civic Futures in the carousel below and at civic-futures.org.

Mayor Lucas how many Black contractors on Meta/Turner project 5% How many Caucasians 95% Kcmo urban core 40% Black? Also no minorities allowed on Meta/Turner, Ordinance created by Mayor Lucas and City Council? Ask about that? Nope because it involves Blacks? ORDINANCE NO. 230401 Amending Chapter 3, Code of Ordinances, by repealing Section 3-431, “Setting Goals for Individual Contracts” and enacting in lieu thereof a new section of like number and subject matter regulating the application of numeric MBE/WBE goals on certain projects leased for development.
Just 3 men who have many differences but one major passion - serving the public! Do you know that 31 people have held the seat of Mayor for Kansas City and the first Mayor was elected in 1859? Only three of those Mayors have been black, While we may differ in political views and opinions, we do know that each of our terms brought growth and expansion, making Kansas City the city it is today! #kansascity
