Confidence is tough to come by sometimes, but Dolly makes it seem so matter-of-fact, so natural. The question is, why doesn’t it seem so natural to everyone? More often than not, we’re standing in our own way when it comes to being confident and self-assured. We allow others to have power over us with their words and actions. We hear what others say and allow their voice to be louder than our own. We begin to question ourselves, our skills and knowledge, our actions, our words… until our confidence is gone. Replaced by insecurity, doubt, imposter syndrome…. Take notes from Dolly! Failure is a learning experience. Be yourself. Make your inner voice sound like your own version of Dolly so it will drown out the rest of the naysayers and noise.

Quick, trippy reminder: in marketing, you don't always have to market to your customer's real age. You can speak to a younger version of them. I'm a firm believer that we still carry a version of most ages we have been, within us. And sometimes these inner children can be quite demanding. 👶 This was weirdly brought home for me again today when I found out Bath & Body Works and Bridgerton (Netflix) were having a collab. Before I knew what was actually happening, I had 10 things in my cart, including an objectively ugly gilded mirror. The 38 year old version of me was very concerned, but the 13 year old version of me was very excited. The inner dialogue went something like this: 13 yo me: DANBURY SHORTBREAD, BUY THAT SH*T IN HANDSOAP AND WALLFLOWER 38 yo me: this will give you a headache and probably canc... 13 yo me: SHUT UP RIGHT NOW. GET THE BRIDGERTON STUDY SCENT, THOSE GUYS ARE HOT 38 yo me: this stuff is kind of expens.... 13 yo me: YOU ARE A PEASANT, SHUT YOUR MOUTH, BUY QUEEN CHARLOTTE'S TEA CANDLE I gave her what she wanted.
