As a recruiter, I often speak with candidates returning from maternity leave who feel nervous about the gap in their resume. But the truth is, that time away is far from a career setback—it’s an opportunity to build invaluable skills! Being on maternity leave pushes your resilience, patience, multitasking skills, and more. Think about what life looks like on maternity leave: balancing new responsibilities, adapting to unpredictable challenges, and finding creative solutions—these are all things that make you more capable, not less. Businesses need to recognise this. Candidates returning from maternity leave bring fresh perspectives and abilities that can make teams stronger and more adaptable. Maternity leave isn’t a gap in a career—it’s a growth opportunity. 🤗 #recruitment #maternityleave #careergrowth #leadershipskills #diversityandinclusion Speller International
100% agree - a career break doesn't make you invaluable. As a parent myself, I'm SO grateful for taking time off for my kids; his as allowed me to bond with my young kiddies. That's my opinion......

4moGreat insight Keely. There is a clear challenge that exists in the gap between that what the truth is, and what the perception of truth is to a potential employer. Returning from parental leave is a great example of where transferrable, valuable, and deeply embedded skills could likely outweigh those that may have been gained through a direct, like-for-like employment role. It's the same principle that drives successful athletes to push and diversity their training regimes for holistic performance increases. I'd love to hear more discussion about how we can influence a shift, where this perspective is more prevalent amongst hirers in the workplace, when today's employment approach is so comfortable for so many?
