Having relatively recently joined Health Data Research UK (HDR UK), I have been really impressed by the #UKHealthDataResearchAlliance's collaborative work, responding to known issues arising from the lack of diversity in health data, by developing recommendations for systemic change. The white paper clearly set out recommendations to improve consistency and completeness of ethnicity data - Read more below! 👇 It also signals the opportunities we have to take this work forward, both in terms of next steps, developing national guidance and training, and in terms of tackling other diversity in data gaps
📝 The #UKHealthDataResearchAlliance's "Enhancing Diversity and Quality in Health Data" white paper dives deep into the critical need to improve the quality and consistency of ethnicity data in health research. It highlights the vital role ethnicity data plays in advancing inclusive healthcare and outlines 5 key recommendations to: ✅Improve consistency and completeness in data collection ✅Align approaches to standardisation and categorisation across the UK ✅Improve transparency and communication about the reason for collecting ethnicity data ✅Develop national guidance and training for data collectors in NHS and social care setting ✅Facilitate data linkage to enrich the information available on ethnicity ➡️ Find out more: https://hubs.li/Q02W_0RT0 #UKHealthData #DiversityInHealthResearch #InclusiveHealthcare #HealthEquity

It’s clear that Social Determinants of Health (#SDOH) data can dramatically shape our #communityhealth initiatives. But we all know the struggle isn’t just about collecting this data—it’s about making it work for our communities. How do we transform these insights into concrete actions that genuinely meet the diverse needs of our communities? Beyond understanding #disparities, it’s crucial to confront and navigate the #structuralbarriers that often complicate these efforts. From policy restrictions to funding limitations, these challenges can significantly hinder our progress toward true #healthequity. Have you tried new approaches or faced hurdles in using SDOH data to drive change, particularly through these structural barriers? What’s the biggest challenge you’ve encountered? I’d love to hear about your experiences and the innovative methods you’ve discovered. #patientcenteredcare #healthinnovation #healthsystemrefom #healthliteracy #patientengagement #healthcareonlinkedin #patientexperience #qualityimprovement #personcenteredcare #healthequity #healthequitynow #sdoh #valuebasedcare #valuebasedhealthcare #personcenteredcare #wholepersoncare

#Data is a powerful tool in making informed #healthcare decisions, but it needs to be inclusive, standardized and widely shared to have a true impact. Earlier this year, the Federal Office of Management and Budget updated their Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) standards for the collection and categorization of race and ethnicity data for the first time since 1997, informed by direct input from stakeholders across diverse populations. Now, federal agencies are tasked with creating action plans to implement these new standards within 18 months. As we continue to work towards #HealthEquity, developments like these data standards will help address disparities across populations and better inform community outreach and patient engagement efforts. I encourage you to dive deeper into this topic discussed in a recent TechTarget article from Hannah Nelson. BCBSA’s Keysha Brooks-Coley, who’s quoted in the article, says it best: “We cannot manage what we cannot measure.” Check it out here 👉 https://lnkd.in/gx7EFYdb

#NCQA recently submitted a comment letter on the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC)’s USCDI+ Behavioral Health draft dataset, which will help drive adoption of interoperable standards to support behavioral health data exchange and care. Our new blog outlines the dataset’s potential impact on behavioral care, and recaps NCQA’s recommendations for enhanced data collection and care delivery.
