"Wetlands🏝 are defined as transitional areas between dry land and deep water🏞, including habitats like rivers, streams and lakes, as well as flood meadows, peatlands, marshes 🌳and estuaries." "Wetlands act as biodiversity 🐟🌴🦀🐢🦦hotspots, providing habitats for various life forms that inhabit both aquatic and terrestrial environments." Here is a simple hand sketch🌲 of, depicting of different Land zones🏞. #biodiversity #biodiversityhotspot #landforms #keystonespp #gogreen

Rainforests are vital habitats for many Wildlife species and are often described as the lungs of the Earth due to the oxygen they provide, but did you know they actually supply about 28% of Earth's oxygen, with 70% actually produced by plants that live in the oceans, also vital habitat, such plants include kelp, phytoplankton and algal plankton. Other land plants contribute 2%. Phytoplankton also consumes carbon dioxide on a scale equivalent to forests and other land plants. These are just some of the many reasons why we need to care for and protect our set of blue and green lungs 🌏 #wildlifenet #environment #sustainability #nature #climatechange #ocean #forest #SustainabilityWorld

🌴Tropical wetlands are among the most productive ecosystems on earth, harbouring unique aquatic and terrestrial communities high in biodiversity. 🌊They protect inland areas from erosion, dissipate energy from storm surges and tsunamis, and buffer marine ecosystems from terrestrial sedimentation and pollutants. Peatlands and mangroves also store an immense amount of carbon. #TropicsDay #WetlandsMatter

Boulder checks, also known as check dams or check weirs, are structures used to slow down and capture flowing water in river systems. By slowing down the flow of water, boulder checks help reduce soil erosion along riverbanks. These structures facilitate groundwater recharge by allowing water to percolate into the ground. Boulder checks create small pools and wetlands which provide critical habitats for aquatic life and help support biodiversity in river ecosystems. The “JalTara” initiative by the @ArtofLiving, has successfully used check dams to rejuvenate rivers and restore ecosystems in 70+ rivers and streams across 8 states of India. #WaterConservation #riverrejuvination #ArtOfLiving #GurudevSriSriRaviShankar #Gurudev #ArtOfLivingSocialProjects

Today is the International Day for Biological Diversity 🌱 Ecosystem diversity is vital - from forests, wetlands, grasslands, deserts, and marine environments, each habitat plays a unique role in maintaining the planet's health and biodiversity. In his photo and caption, Ray Maichin highlights the importance of wetlands: "Did you know that 14% of Canada's landmass is designated as wetlands? They are biologically productive and highly diverse, as well as they provide an incredible amount of benefits to wildlife and humans! Wetlands provide homes to an amazing amount of aquatic and terrestrial creatures, can improve overall water quality, reduce coastal storm damage, and maintain stream flow. They are home to one third of the world's endangered species and help fight climate change by storing 81 to 216 metric tonnes of carbon per acre! This means they are crucial to protect for a variety of reasons, so let's do our best to keep them around!" A biome is a large geographical area characterized by specific climate conditions, plant communities, and animal species. These ecosystems are vital to our planet's health and biodiversity as each biome plays a unique role in supporting life on earth. Protecting biomes is just as crucial as conserving individual species because they provide habitat, regulate climate, and support countless forms of life. #GlobalHumaneConservationFundofAfrica #GlobalHumaneAfrica #GlobalHumane #Biome

Over one million species face the risk of extinction! The WWF’s recent Living Planet report reveals alarming biodiversity loss – a 73% decline in wildlife populations since 1970. Habitat destruction, largely driven by unsustainable food systems, over-harvesting, and pollution, particularly in Asia-Pacific, pose significant threats to biodiversity. What impact has this had on Ecosystems? 🔻 Freshwater ecosystems: 85% decline 🔻Terrestrial ecosystems: 69% decline 🔻Marine ecosystems: 56% decline These ecosystem collapses, including the melting of Himalayan glaciers and coral reef die-offs, impact climate regulation, clean air, and water, and threaten essential natural processes like pollination. As a result, over one million species face the risk of extinction. The report emphasizes the interconnected nature of ecosystem health, biodiversity, and climate change, forming a vicious cycle that requires immediate intervention. . . . #speciesextinction #habitats #marineecosystems #WWF #AsiaPacific #APAC #extinction #habitatloss

You may have heard about the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species in Conservation, but did you know there is a list for ecosystems too? 🌍 But what is an ecosystem anyway? An ecosystem is a community of living organisms interacting with their physical environment. This includes plants, animals, microorganisms, water, soil, and climate. They are dynamic and complex, with each component playing a vital role in maintaining balance. The IUCN Red List of Ecosystems assesses the risk of ecosystem collapse and helps prioritize conservation efforts. #GlobalHumaneConservationFundofAfrica #GlobalHumaneAfrica #GlobalHumane #Biomes #IUCNRedList #Ecosystems

What is aquatic biodiversity, and why is it important? 🤔 Aquatic biodiversity can be described as anything that lives in the water, including plants, wildlife, and other organisms. Biodiversity helps regulate our climate, provide food for wildlife, maintain natural habitats, and more. Good biodiversity equals a good, healthy ecosystem. 🐟 🌱 At Sea & Shoreline, we work to create, enhance, and promote biodiversity. We are combating the biodiversity crisis, one plant at a time. 💪 #Biodiversity #Ecosystems #Wildlife
