On May 24, 2024, the Department of Defense approved a new policy to cover the transportation or shipment of breast milk for Service members during a Permanent Change of Station (PCS). Service members who are breastfeeding their child up to 12 months old and who are on PCS can be reimbursed up to $1,000 for commercial shipping, excess baggage fees, and dry ice or regular ice. This policy supports the Secretary of Defense’s “Taking Care of Our People” initiative by reducing a financial burden Service members historically incurred out-of-pocket. Authorization must be included on the PCS orders prior to any expenses being incurred by the Service member. Receipts must be submitted for all expenses, regardless of the amount (the “$75.00 rule,” which allows most expenses to be claimed without receipt for amounts under $75.00, does not apply). Every organization should invest in CPR training for its employees. This article brings home how urgent and critical this response can be for someone experiencing cardiac arrest and how it can make the difference between life and death. (Just ask General Smith, the survivor described in this Post story, or Damar Hamlin of the Buffalo Bills). Why should employers pay for this? *Because it ensures our teams are prepared to handle emergencies while waiting for first responders to aid staff or visitors to whom we owe a duty of care.* It is also a way to demonstrate your commitment to the communities we serve since these skills can also come in handy out in the world. When I led risk management at Aspen, I made sure every employee was given the opportunity to take CPR training at each office location and offered remote employees a reimbursement for training near their homes. The cost is minimal and in some cases may be offered for free by your local EMS. In even the best of circumstances, calling 911 will mean precious minutes are lost waiting for first responders (and if you live in DC or New Orleans, it could be much longer.) Although people may be scared to provide CPR for fear they will do it wrong or will harm the person, in reality the worst harm will be caused by doing nothing. And if you’re grossed out by the idea of giving mouth-to-mouth to a stranger, then skip it. Chest compressions alone can still make a huge difference. If your organization is committed to making the world a better place then show it by offering all employees the opportunity to take CPR training. #riskmanagement #emergencypreparedness

Transfer Educational Records: ✨Ensure all your child’s educational records, including their Individualized Education Program (IEP), evaluations, and progress reports, are up-to-date and complete. ✨Request physical copies of these records from the current school to provide to the new school district. 2. Research and Connect with New Schools: ✨Research potential school districts and their special education services in the area where you will be relocating and contact the new school's department. 3. Initiate the Transition Process: ✨ Notify your current school and the new school about your upcoming move as soon as possible and work to coordinate the transition. 4. Understand Legal Rights and Resources: ✨ Familiarize yourself with the special education laws and policies in your new state or school district, as there can be differences. ✨ Reach out to local parent advocacy groups, the Parent Training and Information Center (PTI), or Special Education Advisory Councils for additional support and resources. 5. Update Medical and Support Services: ✨ If your child receives related services (e.g., speech therapy, occupational therapy), ensure you have referrals and records from current providers to transition those services seamlessly. ✨Update your DEERS and TRICARE information and ensure your child’s medical and support needs are covered in your new location. 6. Schedule a New IEP Meeting: ✨ As soon as possible after the move, request an IEP meeting with the new school to review and possibly update your child's IEP. 7. Stay Organized and Document Everything: ✨ Keep a binder or digital folder with all important documents, contacts, and notes related to your child's education and services.
