Kelp Blue’s Post

Kelp forests act as eco-system engineers by adding structure and habitat for marine life 🐠 What does that mean, being an eco-system engineer? Kelp actively shapes and supports the environment around it. Here is how: 🔹 Habitat Creator – Kelp forests are underwater homes, offering shelter and food to countless marine species, from tiny invertebrates to fish and even marine mammals. Kelpies in the marine monitoring team have detected over 800 new species in and around our seaweed forests! 🔹 Coastal Protector – By buffering waves and currents, kelp helps protect shorelines from erosion. Just like forests on land shield the soil from wind and rain. 🔹 Carbon Removal – Kelp absorbs CO₂ as it grows, playing a big role in fighting climate change, reducing ocean acidity, and increasing oxygen levels for the marine biodiversity. 🔹 Nutrient Recycler – As kelp grows, it cycles nutrients, enriching ocean ecosystems. Even though giant kelp forests are beautiful to look at, they also play a vital role in ocean health and conservation. #seaweed #kelp #forest #ocean #ecosystems #marine #biodiversity #environment

I hope people realise that this is actually our seaweed farm! - and look how completely natural it feels and looks - that is a major and essential part of what we are setting out to do. Nature positive by mimicking nature. Inspired by Nature.

I talk about how Blue Carbon can help industries put waves to work.

It’s as if you’re planting forests in the ocean - forests that can grow 60cm a day in ideal conditions. All without land use, or having to wait 10 years for maturity. Imagine that! 😉 #bluecarbon #climateinvest
