International Energy Agency (IEA) says that new technologies and techniques (just like the ones Earth's Energy is deploying) conservatively sees geothermal’s LCOE to average US $50 per MWh and predicts US $1 trillion investment into geothermal projects by 2035. Geothermal power is a renewable energy source with a number of advantages, including ability to deliver baseload power, high capacity factors and small footprint relative to other types of power plant. It is expected to enjoy significant growth in the coming year, it is estimated that only around 7% of the total global potential for geothermal power is being used now, providing plenty of scope to increase utilisation. Presently, there are 26 countries that generate power from geothermal sources and is highest in the Asia Pacific region. Sweden comes third in the list of countries using geothermal energy. From around 1996, the average depth of shallow geothermal boreholes drilled in the country started to increase from around 100 m - limited by compressor capacity - to 200 m today – limited by energy demand. Exciting developments in the geothermal energy sector! ♨ In January, the European Parliament adopted a resolution for a comprehensive geothermal energy strategy.
