Fact of the day! Over 2 billion people globally lack access to basic #sanitation. In Africa alone, 779 million people lack basic sanitation services including 208 million people who still practice open #defecation. However, with ventures like WashKing, this is slowly changing! Washking leverages technology to provide low-income and #underserved communities in Ghana with access to, safe and sustainable sanitation products and services at an affordable price. So far Dieudonne Kwame Agudah and his team at WASHKING have built over 800 toilets benefitting over 1,700 low-income households and underserved communities in Ghana. 💧 There may be lots of water out there at the moment, but we intend on saving it! #morethanjustwelfare ... 💦 Non-concussive Taps: Oasis welfare units have non-concussive taps, also known as push taps or self-closing taps. They offer significant water-saving benefits due to their automatic shut off mechanism, which prevents water from being unnecessarily wasted. 🚽 Low-flush Toilets: Oasis welfare units have low-flush toilets, which are designed to significantly reduce water consumption compared to traditional toilets. Low-flush toilets conserve water, reduce costs, and reduce environmental impact of wastewater treatment. #oasiswelfare #oasisunits #welfareunits #watersaving #oasiswelfare #toilets #construction

On 26 September, a groundbreaking moment unfolded in Shinyanga, Tanzania, with the launch of the country’s first-ever Occupational Health and Safety guidelines tailored specifically for sanitation workers. 🤝 📈 This achievement stems from a collaborative effort between the government, development partners, and the hardworking lobby of the Watu Kazi Group, a pioneering group of seven manual emptiers who gained government recognition and became officially registered last year. Today, the official database of manual emptiers has grown to 70 sanitation workers across the country. 👷♂️💪 Why does this matter? Sanitation workers are the backbone of urban health and safety, tirelessly working to ensure our cities remain clean and habitable. The development of these guidelines marks a significant leap towards recognising their invaluable contribution and ensuring their work is conducted safely and with dignity. 🌏 👉 As we observe #UrbanOctober, let's spotlight the critical importance of decent work conditions for these unsung heroes who play a pivotal role in safeguarding the health and safety of city populations. Congratulations to the Government of Tanzania for elevating the profession of sanitation work. For the latest on SNV's work with emptiers in Tanzania, contact Olivier Germain Leyla Khalifa SNV's work with emptiers is part of a global initiative to improve the work conditions of sanitation workers as a crucial part of progressing urban sanitation and health. ENOUGH : refers to sufficient, full or satisfactory. World Vision Eswatini will soon be partnering in a campaign called ENOUGH. The organisation will be advocating for ENOUGH food for children in Eswatini. Let us all join hands and shout in one voice that No child deserves to go to bed on an empty stomach. No child deserves to go to school on an empty stomach. Let us all work together towards reducing malnutrition (all forms) Let us all work together towards ending hunger. No baby deserves not to be Breastfed. I am thrilled that the Kingdom's National Strategy for 2025-2030 will be centred around SDG 8 (Decent work and Economic Growth). This is a positive move towards an improved livelihood for the unemployed youth in the country. #foreverychildenoughfood #foreverychildabalancedmeal

Sanitation workers around the world provide an essential public service 🙌 But poor working conditions, social and economic marginalisation, and health hazards, mean the work often comes at the cost of their dignity and health. Ensuring sanitation workers have access to social protection is vital to reduce and compensate for the innate risks of the profession. Explore our assessments of social protection schemes in Bangladesh, Nepal and Pakistan, and recommendations to strengthen them, in our synthesis report and policy briefs. 👉 https://brnw.ch/21wGxvi #SanitationWorkers #Sanitation #SouthAsia

Preparations are well underway for our food parcel distribution in Garissa, Kenya. Garissa, located in northeastern Kenya, faces serious humanitarian challenges that have worsened over the years, primarily due to prolonged droughts and climate change. These have disrupted traditional livelihoods like pastoralism, resulting in substantial livestock losses and driving up food insecurity. The impact? Rising malnutrition, especially among children, and increasing dependency on aid due to limited alternative livelihoods and soaring food prices. Beyond food, Garissa faces critical gaps in health and education: ➡️ Health: Few health facilities, often under-resourced, struggle to provide basic services. Water scarcity heightens health risks, leading to waterborne diseases. ➡️ Education: Access to education is strained, particularly for girls, with limited schools and resources in the area. ‼️Why our support matters: These challenges have created a cycle of dependency that’s hard to break without sustainable solutions. Our food parcel distribution is a small but essential step toward supporting these communities through difficult times. We’re working to ensure families receive vital aid, but long-term solutions are key to empowering Garissa. Let’s help make a difference together. Support us in bringing hope and resilience to Garissa’s communities. #HumanitarianAid #FoodSecurity #Garissa #Kenya #CommunitySupport #MakeADifference Hamza Ahmed Fasel Ahmed Ikhlas Alvi Sophia Naheed Salman Anwar
