In case you missed it: Global Happiness Map 2024 The Nordic countries are always winning when it comes to the happiness race. Finland took the top spot for the seventh year in a row in 2024, followed by Denmark and Iceland. The Nordic countries are characterized by a virtuous cycle in which various key institutional and cultural indicators of good society feed into each other including well-functioning democracy, generous and effective social welfare benefits, low levels of crime and corruption, and satisfied citizens who feel free and trust each other and governmental institutions. The Gallup World Poll surveys approximately 1,000 respondents in nearly every country on a variety of issues, one of which is to evaluate their current life on a scale from 0–10. However, does satisfaction with socioeconomic conditions result in individual emotional happiness? It's important to note that happiness is a complex and subjective measure, and what constitutes happiness can differ greatly from one individual to another, influenced by cultural, economic, and personal values. #GlobalHappiness #wellbeing #personalgrowth Source: Visual Capitalist

Thrilled to see Finland keeping the title as happiest country in the world! What makes this Nordic nation stand out? Here might be a few reasons: - Work-life balance - With shorter work hours and generous parental leave, we learn to prioritize well-being alongside career success. This is not easy but doable. - Nature and Outdoor lifestyle: We have a unique access to pristine nature (clean, non-polluted air, not to be taken for granted!) as well as outdoor activities promotes physical and mental health. Freedom from corruption: We are free to make our own decisions and life choices. - Strong social support: We have still quite a good welfare system that we need to keep healthy. There are difficulties yes, but there is a base thought where the goal is to ensure that all citizens can feel supported and cared for. All Finns can congratulate each other for leading the way in happiness once again! #happiness #Finland #QualityofLife #worldhappinessreport

World Happiness Report 2024 is out. As usual, Finland wins, but Denmark takes second place - again. I am immensely proud to live in a country that does well in happiness, and also seeing the Nordics as a united area performing above any other area in the world. So why is that you might ask? In 2020 the report made a special analysis of "The Nordic Exceptionalism" stating: "...extensive welfare benefits, low corruption, and well-functioning democracy and state institutions. Furthermore, Nordic citizens experience a high sense of autonomy and freedom, as well as high levels of social trust towards each other" Go #nordics! https://lnkd.in/drc4uxS4

Finland: "The Wellbeing State" 🌿✨ Come help and Let's rebrand the way we talk about Finland! Instead of outdated terms like "welfare" or "nanny state," how about embracing what Finland truly is—a "Wellbeing State"! ❤️🩹 There's a reason Finland is consistently ranked the happiest country on earth, and it’s not because of stock market fluctuations! It’s all about wellbeing metrics—those are what truly matter. Finland is the "Wellbeing State," and that’s something to celebrate! 🎉 As talks arise about cutting back on the benefits our hard-earned taxes support, it’s time to ask—if not for the collective good, then what are we working towards? Look around at other Nordic economies with similar tax structures; they’re doing fine or even thriving. So why not us? Could it be as simple as lowering interest rates or welcoming fresh, outside perspectives? Right now, the approach seems focused on taking away from those who’ve already earned it and redirecting that to businesses. But is that really the way forward? Especially when the tried and true success of Finland has been about supporting everyone. 💪 The idea of cutting back on what makes us strong to shore up uncertain business models feels a little like gambling. Should we really risk the wellbeing of the many to benefit a few? When Finland’s success has come from ensuring that no one is left behind. Yes, streamlining public services can help—if it’s done thoughtfully, improving quality for everyone rather than adding more burdens. Let’s keep Finland the "Wellbeing State"—and make it even better for all! 💙 (photo is of my son in the Finnish countryside 🥰)

The happiest countries in the world 🌏 The World Happiness Report 2024 was released in March, and it’s unsurprising to see Nordic countries continuing to rank high in happiness. They have strong social welfare systems, high levels of trust, and overall quality of life. Out of a total of 143 countries, some important parts of life are tied mainly to age, such as schooling, employment and health. Other society-wide factors range from violence, earthquakes and pandemics to how new technologies and changing natural and social environments interact with also-changing ways of seeing history, facing inequalities, and connecting with each other. The top ten: 1. Finland 2. Denmark 3. Iceland 4. Sweden 5. Israel 6. Netherlands 7. Norway 8. Luxembourg 9. Switzerland 10. Australia While the top ten countries remain largely unchanged, there has been much more action in the top twenty. Costa Rica and Kuwait are both new entrants to the top 20, at positions 12 and 13. The United States and Germany drop from 15 and 16 last year to 23 and 24 this year. The top countries no longer include any of the largest countries. In the top ten countries, only the Netherlands and Australia have populations over 15 million. Rankings differ a lot for the young and the old. In the United States and Canada, the rankings for those aged 60 and older are 50 or more places higher than for those under 30. In Central and Eastern Europe, the reverse is true, with many rankings being more than 40 places higher for the young than for the old. The bottom three countries were Lesotho, Lebanon, and Afghanistan. 🔸Have you visited any of the world's happiest countries?

The 2024 World Happiness Report prompts a crucial conversation on the age-old question: Does money buy happiness? While Finland tops the list as the happiest country, the relationship between economic prosperity and happiness is not always straightforward. A snapshot comparison of EU countries and the UK, plotting GDP against happiness scores, suggests that countries with higher GDPs tend to have happier citizens. However, this narrative is challenged by the considerable GDPs of Germany, France, UK, and Italy, but not reaching the top tier of happiness scores. GDP per capita analysis provides invaluable depth and a richer understanding of individual prosperity and its correlation with happiness. The Nordic countries stand out, not because they have the largest economies, but due to their high GDP per capita and resulting happiness scores. When individual prosperity permeates through to the average citizen, coupled with effective social welfare, happiness seems to flourish. These data challenge us to consider other factors beyond economic growth, such as how prosperity is shared and utilized to uplift every individual, or how living conditions, well-being, and access to culture and entertainment can be factored in. Aiming to go beyond just economic growth and strive for societal contentment seems the right way forward. Let's continue the conversation on how we can work towards a happier world. #happiness #economy #prosperity #societalcontentment
