Behind the Redwood Curtain, the heart of the Emerald Triangle, the further north you go the more you realize how vast the wilderness is and how freakin' remote you really are. No cell service, no traffic, no urban sprawl, no tall buildings, no real services of any kind, no population density, just trees, rivers and mountains and more trees... Up the 101 corridor, which if you didn't know runs over 1500 miles north and south, the big trees are only north though and you are a good 5 to 6 hours north of the #goldengate bridge before you even get into them. Driving through the big trees... its something everyone should experience at least once in your life, the giant #redwoods are taller than most city buildings with many twenty to over thitry stories tall and a lot more than fifty feet across at the base, now thats a bigass tree! And the further you go, its likely you are on the road by yourself except when passing through and around the small towns. A little glimpse of rolling through the majestics *video: heres a little drive down the 199 in far coastal #northerncalifornia as we're winding our way through the Jed Smith NP area, only a few minutes as you leave the 101 corridor. Up in the north coast country, You never really leave the forest, this is where the mountains and redwoods meet the ocean, in some spots the big trees run right up to the ocean on the edge of the north american continent. #emeraldtriangle behind the #redwoodcurtain Everyone should drive through these magnificent ancients, that have been here for millennia, the more time you spend beneath them the more you become aware, you're... #justaspeckonthemap beneath #mothernature #skyscrapers

🌳 The UK’s wet woodlands are bursting with life. Many of them home to ancient trees that have been around since the 1600s. They’re a valuable resource for nature, providing homes for all creatures big and small and act as a buffer against pollutants. Trees like alder, willows and birch thrive in these areas, with sedges, ferns and mosses flourishing beneath them in the high humidity. And through the spring and summer you'll see yellow flag iris, bittersweet nightshade and marsh marigold scattered across the wet woodland floor. Today, these valuable places are still under threat from urban development, river control and management, clearance and drainage, and intensive grazing. What’s your favourite thing about wet woodlands? #NationalTreeWeek #WetWoodland #Woodland #Wetlands #Swamp

Forest As a critical component of its mission, Schmitz Park Creek Restore seeks to preserve, protect, and restore Schmitz Park’s 53 acres of largely undisturbed native old-growth forest; one of the only such stands left in the Salish Sea/Puget Sound basin. This unique forest canopy includes ancient native Western Red Cedar, Douglas Fir, Western Hemlock, Grand Fir, Big Leaf Maple, Western Red Alder, Pacific Yew, Cascara, and Madrona trees. At least two large California Redwoods also thrive there. The understory of the Schmitz Park Forest is also largely intact. It includes many native bushes and plants, trilliums and fawn lilies, skunk cabbage, oso plum, ocean spray and goatsbear. It also includes evergreen huckleberry, red huckleberry, salmonberry, thimbleberry, service berry and salal. There are also rare species of numerous ferns and mosses including, sword, licorice, deer and maiden hair ferns. And finally there are ancient mosses, including club moss. Such plants are rarely seen in native surroundings in urban settings.
