Angela attended the workshop "Demystifying Quality: Be Empowered to Progress Beyond the Concept of the Tick-box," focusing on criteria 4.1 of the Foundation Standard, 'Responsiveness to Diversity.' During the session, the Quality Team presented a case study from Lyttelton Health Centre, showcasing how they effectively integrated diversity measures into their general practice. Following this, groups engaged in a collaborative activity sharing valuable feedback on the five domains of the Foundation Standard as we prepare for the upcoming two-year review. Let me add 3 more remarks: * Regulatory Implementation: Given the fast-evolving nature of GLP, the GCC could benefit from establishing stringent regulations similar to those in Europe to ensure responsible usage, particularly focusing on patient education and awareness. * Investment in Local Production: To prevent potential shortages and control counterfeit risks, the GCC might consider investment in local production and storage facilities, allowing greater self-reliance in the supply chain for these essential drugs. * Reimbursement coverage: Super critical to create clear treatment protocols and insurance coverage guidelines and hence to ensure that these treatments are accessible and financially sustainable for those in need. #glp #obesity #diabetes #futureofhealthcare

At the Institute for iCamagu Professions of South Africa (IPROSA), we champion the Camagu Indigenous Knowledge System (C-IKS), a rich tapestry of traditional health practices, cultural rituals, and bioeconomic wisdom. Yet, this invaluable heritage faces an existential threat from a regulatory landscape that remains stubbornly rooted in colonial mindsets. #IPROSA, which is our legal and policy division, has made a submission to strengthen regulation and implementation of the Traditional Health Practitioners Regulations (published on 21 June 2024), in line with our mandate to create an enabling economy indigenous practitioners and their communities can operate harmoniously with the law. #CDHAlert | In today's alert, Phetheni Nkuna (LLM, MBA), Thato Makoaba and Khutso Mongadi discuss a new era for traditional healers: A step towards formalisation and regulation. The Traditional Health Professional Regulations, 2024 (Regulations) were published in the Government Gazette for comment on 21 June 2024. The Regulations aim to formalise and professionalise traditional health practices in South Africa and are set to be implemented under the Traditional Health Practitioners Act 22 of 2007 (THPA). Under the new framework, traditional healers will no longer be operating in a legal grey area. Once registered with the Interim Traditional Health Practitioners Council of South Africa (Council), practitioners will be officially recognised as traditional health practitioners. In accordance with the Regulations, medical certificates from traditional healers will only be legally recognised if the healer is registered with the Council and meets the requirements set out in THPA. While the THPA has been in existence since 2007, the Regulations are the key to bringing the act into full operation, with an emphasis on establishing clear guidelines for those seeking to practice traditional health.
