The Innovation for Health event yesterday was very inspiring and beneficial! As we at InsectSense are building a biochip technology that senses like a human and smells like bees 🐝, we could find a few collaborators that could benefit from our technology! It was also full of learnings. The interaction with people from academia and companies taught me how other technologies are fulfilling the need in the current market and what are some of the gaps. Also, it was very impressive to see entrepreneurs who have raised 50 M or 100 M $€ investment. Even more impressive was to see the entrepreneurs whose companies are generating such revenues! This shows that it's all about finding the right investors and having the right proposition, and it's possible to get there! Let's keep hope🚀. The panel discussion of Tim Knotnerus , Eline van Beest , and Jan van de Winkel, Ph.D. was also very interesting, mostly in 2 aspects: 1. How to deal with the team and organization when you are growing. I liked what Tim said based on his experience; having lunch with new employees always makes it nice and brings people closer to each other! Keeping the focus on your goal and the vision of the company and on reaching the milestones as planned in the board meeting. Sometimes it's not needed that everyone agrees on 1 decision, but when the decision is made, they all follow and respect that and keep that as their focus. 2. Plans can always change and things can go wrong! It's good to accept it, but have a backup plan. I remember that last year, with Koenraad Wiedhaup , Tim, and Eline, one of the main topics was about pivoting. I could resonate this last topic very much aligned with that conversation! It was also great to meet again one of my favorite and inspiring entrepreneurs, Thom Weustink, and also Ansa Baykuş-Wasim, PhD from Deloitte yesterday. We had this interesting conversation about awareness for all the team members and organization about phishing and the importance of cybersecurity. Thanks to all the organizers of this event, sponsors, speakers and also everyone who helped me with connections with people in their network. Another week another conferring of great minds at the 3rd conference of the Swiss #ImplementationScience Network (IMPACT) hosted in Geneva! As little as 14% of research in #healthcare is implemented, which may on average take up to 15 years! At the same time "low-value" practices are in place harming patients as well as the #environment. Implementation science adresses these issues - the Achilles' Heel: jumping to solutions! We need to get to the root cause through diagnostic evaluations of barriers and #ChooseWisely. (De)-implementation may also mean changing habitual #behaviors - a challenge we want to take on to reduce research waste and ensure high quality patient care. Thanks to the University Hospital Basel for supporting this, the Institute for Implementation Science in Health Care (IfIS) for a welcoming and inspiring first week and IMPACT (https://lnkd.in/eAXZn9sz) for a great conference!

WHAT IF THE KEY TO A HEALTHIER FUTURE LIES IN THE SHARED KNOWLEDGE OF SCIENCE, TRANSCENDING BORDERS AND UNITING HUMANITY? The power of collaboration in clinical research fuels innovation, breaking down barriers to harness diverse insights and expertise. When researchers, healthcare professionals, and communities come together, they create solutions that benefit everyone. By emphasising collaboration, we can ensure that scientific advancements reach every corner of the globe, improving health outcomes and fostering a brighter future for all. As Louis Pasteur emphasised, science knows no borders. #ScienceForAll #GlobalHealth #ClinicalResearch #Innovation

I had the privilege of attending a profoundly moving talk by Prof.Nassir Navab at RISE MICCAI. Prof. Navab’s journey was not just a narrative of personal triumph but a powerful reminder of the responsibility we all share in ensuring healthcare innovation and opportunities are accessible to everyone, regardless of their circumstances or borders. Here are the key learnings I took away from Prof. Nassir Navab's inspiring talk at RISE MICCAI: 1. Find your path in the interjections of what you're already doing. Sometimes, the unexpected moments or challenges shape your journey in ways you don’t foresee. 2. The most important decision in research is choosing what to work on and ensuring it gives back to the world. Your research should not only advance the field but also have a meaningful impact on society. 3. Create a positive research environment around you. A supportive and collaborative atmosphere is key to success. 4. Focus on continual learning rather than striving for big leaps. Consistent, steady growth is often more impactful than dramatic progress.

Health systems are often too complex, making change difficult or impossible to implement, when it really is a must. What can be done differently? In this video, Irene Grossmann, MD, PhD addresses this question. 💙🏥 Discover TU Delft's impact on the healthcare transition during TU Delft Health month in February. During this month, we will show how many of our researchers and students are contributing to the urgent societal challenge: transforming healthcare into a sustainable and future-proof form. York Health Economics Consortium has thoroughly enjoyed attending Health Technology Assessment international (HTAi) 2024 and sharing our expertise on a range of topics, notably environmental sustainability in HTA. While environmental sustainability is high on the agenda of many healthcare conferences and conversations at the moment, it was interesting to be part of the discussion around elevating its importance within HTA processes. The HTA juncture is a decision point for implementation of practice; in order to make real change in practice, sustainability must become part of these decision points and processes. YHEC is proud to have steered and championed this topic through a working group, panel presentation, and other oral and poster presentations based on our analysis of techniques to support environmental sustainability in HTA. YHEC's Melissa Pegg BSc (Hons) MSc MSc PIEMA shares her thoughts on the conference below.
