One process we are trying to test out with this workshop is not only to develop an implementation framework for the National Seed Policy but also to ensure that regulatory duties remain with government agencies, while the private sector takes charge of implementing the plan. This way, our expected output is an actionable implementation framework completed within the projected timeline. #Seed #Agribusiness #Policy

In #Senegal, smallholder farmers cannot maximize their harvest incomes because they have limited ability to store crops safely and securely, and they are not able to access the credit needed to finance activities during the post-harvest period. One way to address these post-harvest marketing challenges is to implement a Warehouse Receipts System (WRS). The AgResults Senegal Crop Storage Finance Challenge Project (2021-2024) was a #PayForResults prize competition that aimed to spur adoption of WRS in Senegal. Although it was terminated early, it highlighted valuable lessons about how to build the infrastructure and awareness needed to effectively implement WRS activities. https://lnkd.in/dk6vZCBy

Uzbekistan Partners with Korean Firm to Cultivate New Grape Varieties Uzbekistan is collaborating with South Korea’s TNS Global Group to introduce new grape varieties and employ advanced agricultural technologies to boost production. This partnership will utilize TNS Global Group’s expertise to establish high-tech vineyards in Uzbekistan, focusing on variety selection, cultivation, and drying processes. During a recent visit, TNS representatives assessed Uzbekistan's export potential and the Central Phytosanitary Laboratory, discussing strategies to meet South Korea's stringent quality standards and maintain phytosanitary safety for Uzbekistan’s fruit exports. This initiative aims to enhance Uzbekistan's agricultural output and expand its reach in international markets. In a bid to boost agricultural production in Kano State, the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, in collaboration with the state government, has distributed essential agricultural inputs to 1,000 farmers as part of the Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones (SAPZ) program. This initiative, a part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” agenda, aims to establish Nigeria as a leading global force in agriculture. The project focuses on rice and tomato cultivation across Bagwai and Kura Local Government Areas, with 500 farmers assigned to each crop. Dr. Danjuma Mahmoud, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, highlighted that the program aims to empower skilled farmers with critical resources, ultimately enhancing agricultural productivity.
