🌟 Reflecting on an enlightening "Tech to Market" workshop at European Innovation Council and SMEs Executive Agency (EISMEA) Summit 2024 in Brussels 🇪🇺 Today, I had the honor of participating in the "Tech to Market" workshop during Research and Innovation Week. A continuation of our journey since the first online session in December 2023. The workshop focused on "Shaping the ideal support programme to help European researchers transition from lab to market." This wasn't just any event; it was a confluence of ideas and a showcase of collective intelligence from across Europe. Notably, French actors shone brightly, underscoring the impact of innovation policies by Secrétariat général pour l'investissement like #France2030 and demonstrating the dynamic innovation landscape in France. 🔍 Highlights: - Diverse perspectives: Our collaborative discussions, spanning three groups, delved into creating a path for this ideal support program. - Innovation Showcase: Beyond the workshop, stands displayed cutting-edge devices and startups, highlighting Europe’s vibrant innovation ecosystem. I'm immensely thankful to the organizing team and fellow participants for the enriching dialogue. Reflecting back on the Commonwealth Kenya Tech Innovation Week 2023, winning the Presidential Innovation Award was a significant achievement that highlighted the impactful contributions of our innovation. This recognition validated our commitment to pushing the boundaries of technological advancement and addressing pressing societal challenges. Receiving the award served as affirmation that our innovation not only had the potential to drive positive change but also garnered attention and support from key stakeholders, including government authorities. It reinforced our belief in the power of innovation to transform lives and enhance the well-being of communities. Moreover, winning the Presidential Innovation Award provided a platform to showcase our innovation on a national and international scale, amplifying its reach and impact. It opened doors to new opportunities for collaboration, funding, and scaling our solution to reach even more people in need. Beyond the accolades, the recognition encouraged us to continue our journey of innovation, to persist in our efforts to create meaningful and sustainable solutions that address critical issues facing our society. It inspired us to further refine our innovation, leveraging feedback and lessons learned to continuously improve and adapt to evolving needs and circumstances. In essence, winning the Presidential Innovation Award at the Commonwealth Kenya Tech Innovation Week 2023 was not just a moment of celebration but also a catalyst for greater innovation and positive change. As a newly appointed EIC Ambassador, it is with enthusiasm that I continue to root for innovation made in Europe. So inspiring to attend the European Innovation Council Summit in Brussels today and to meet some of Europe’s leading #deeptech innovators. Since yesterday, the negotiations between Switzerland and the European Union are also officially open 🇨🇭🇪🇺. This is fantastic news because: ⭐️ as part of the transitional arrangements agreed with the EU, researchers in Switzerland are now eligible for 2024 calls for the European Research Council Advance Grants ⭐️ securing Switzerland's participation in EU programmes, particularly in the area of research (Horizon), is part of the negotiation package The EIC has made significant progress in becoming the investor of choice for European deep tech entrepreneurs, also increasing its support for women founders and innovators from widening countries: ⭐️ the EIC Fund has taken over 200 investment decisions worth €1.3 billion in just over one year of operation ⭐️ it is important to note that the public funds are crowding in additional private investment into high-potential start-ups and small and medium-sized enterprises ⭐️ to date, this leverage stands at over €3.5 of additional private investment for every euro of investment through the EIC Interested to learn more about #EUeic and its impact? Both #ERAHubs projects have been mentioned in the 1st implementation report on the New European Innovation Agenda: European Innovation on the move! published on March 18. The aim of the #ERAHubs is to develop and test a set of specifications and a methodology to help regions assess, benchmark and upgrade their R&I ecosystems to achieve minimum quality criteria on: (i) internal coordination; (ii) the provision of supporting services; and (iii) interconnection with other ecosystems. Our co-founder Prof. Rana Sanyal participated as a panelist at the "European Research Area: Fostering Greater Integration. Advancing Competitiveness" event in Brussels today. The Ministry of Science, Technology & Innovation (MISTI) is preparing for the 2nd National Day of Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI Day 2024), which is expected to significantly impact Cambodia's SME development and technological growth. The event, set against the backdrop of "SMEs Go STI," aims to integrate Science, Technology, and Innovation into SME operations to boost efficiency, market competitiveness, and global integration. European Innovation on the move! We are excited to share the insights from the first report on the New European Innovation Agenda (NEIA) 📈 The report showcases the remarkable strides made in driving innovation, collaboration and sustainable growth across 🇪🇺. Twenty months after its launching, this roadmap is in full swing: 13 out of its 25 actions have been completed, 1 is ongoing and more than 200 measures have been taken by Member States and Associated Countries💡 The NEIA builds on existing successful programmes (such as the European Innovation Council - EIC, the European Institute of Innovation and Technology - EIT, or InvestEU) but introduced new elements, such as: ➡ New Directives proposed by the Commission to facilitate listing for SMEs and to encourage investments in equity. ➡New or expanded mechanisms to encourage venture capital, such as ESCALAR or the European Tech Champions Initiative. ➡Networks of regions (European Innovation Valleys), of Universities (ErasmusPlus Alliances for Innovation) and of promising scale-ups (EIC-Scale Up 100 Club) launched or about to be launched. ➡Actions in the areas of innovation procurement, experimentation spaces or stock options for employees ➡Training opportunities such as the EIT deep-tech talent initiative, addressed to 1 million young innovators The European Agenda and the complementary actions taken by Member States offer an impressive picture of a vibrant and dynamic landscape, focused on competitiveness, strategic autonomy and green/digital transitions.
