Most of our vaccination survey respondents (83%) agreed that there should be national targets for adult vaccination coverage. Targets help direct resources more effectively, hold funders accountable, and highlight the importance of vaccination to everyone. Other countries have targets, as do some Australian jurisdictions – it’s time for national adult targets so we can work together to improve health!

Vaccines save lives. 💉 But some GPs have much lower vaccination rates among their older patients than other GPs in the same area. In Bankstown, there’s a 7x difference in COVID vaccination rates and an 18x difference for pneumococcal vaccination between GPs. In Wyndham, there’s a 3x difference in COVID rates and a 10x difference in pneumococcal rates. GPs with lower vaccination rates typically have more patients who are disadvantaged and struggle with English, but they get less funding because they charge their patients lower fees. The government should step in to boost the protection of vulnerable Australians, by reforming general practice funding, giving better data to GPs, and providing extra help through Primary Health Networks.
