Online Communities • Social Media: Platforms like X (#ActuallyAutistic) and Facebook groups provide spaces for autistic individuals to connect and share experiences. • Blogs and Websites: Many autistic individuals share their stories and advocacy efforts through personal blogs and websites. #share #AutisticCulture #AutisticCommunity #Neurodiversity #AutisticPride #ActuallyAutistic #AutismAcceptance #NeurodiversityMovement #AutismAwareness #AutismAdvocacy #AutismRights #InclusionMatters #DisabilityAwareness #InclusionRevolution #DiversityAndInclusion #DifferentNotLess #AllAbilities #AccessibilityMatters #EducationForAll #AutisticVoices #AutisticSupport #CommunityMatters #AutisticLife #EmpathyInAction #AcceptanceNotAwareness #AutisticAndProud #ProudToBeAutistic #CelebrateNeurodiversity #PrideInDiversity #EmpowerAutisticVoices

Advocating for the autism community begins with understanding and empathy. As allies, we can make a real impact by educating ourselves, promoting acceptance, and creating inclusive spaces. Let’s push for better services and listen to those needing support. Together, we can build a world where individuals with autism are celebrated for their strengths. Advocacy is not just about speaking up, it’s about taking action to create lasting change. By supporting autism-friendly policies and encouraging others to do the same, we can make inclusion the norm, not the exception. #AutismAdvocacy #InclusionMatters #Neurodiversity #SupportAutism #AutismAwareness #BeAnAlly #AdvocateForChange #CompleatKidz

Fede & Laurent (2020) address the concept of ‘levelling up’ regulatory support in their programme. They have created a helpful guideline from real awareness through to empowerment and advocacy. The Autism LevelUP! programme was developed as a collaboration between an autistic advocate and an OT ally and the resources are regularly used in our OFG services to support neurodivergent young people and adults with understanding themselves within the context of their environment or in relation to the demands of a particular activity. What personalised strategies do they need to power up/down their energy levels? We will highlight a different level each day during Neurodiversity Celebration Week 2024. The first level being: AWARENESS. 💡 Where are you? And will you take the next step? Look at their example below from the Essential Guide to Levelling Up! to see where you are and how to take the next step: See link to their website with wonderful free resources: Autism Level UP! #bigASK #neurodiversitycelebrationweek #occupationaltherapy #outcomesfirstgroup #sensoryprocessing #AutismlevelUP!

In the shadowed folds of April's embrace, Where whispers of awareness gently grace, I find myself pondering, amidst the throng, The essence of neurodiversity's song. In this month of heightened hue, Where the world turns its gaze anew, I contemplate the intricate dance, Of minds that dare to break convention's trance. For within the spectrum's vast expanse, Lies a tapestry of depth, of chance, Each thread woven with intricate care, A testament to the beauty we bear. Yet in the spotlight's glare, I pause, For the narrative often clings to flawed applause, Stereotypes echo in the din, Whilst the true essence of diversity lies within. So I retreat to quieter realms, serene, Where the nuances of truth are keen, For advocacy, I'll not confine, To a single month's fleeting shine. In the silent chambers of contemplation, I'll champion understanding, with dedication, For neurodiversity's essence transcends, The confines of calendar's temporal bends. In April and beyond, let us traverse, The pathways of acceptance, diverse, For sophistication lies not in fleeting days, But in the perennial embrace of inclusive ways. I find myself not posting much about neurodivergence during April for a few reasons. Firstly, April is often associated with Autism Awareness Month, and while awareness is important, I often find the conversations during this time to be lacking in depth and understanding. The focus tends to be on stereotypes and oversimplified narratives, rather than the complex and diverse experiences of neurodivergent individuals like myself. Moreover, the sudden surge of attention on autism during April can feel overwhelming and tokenising. It's as if neurodivergence is only acknowledged or discussed during this designated month, rather than being an ongoing conversation throughout the year. Instead of contributing to these superficial discussions, I prefer to focus my advocacy efforts on promoting genuine understanding, acceptance, and support for neurodivergent individuals year-round. By doing so, I believe I can make a more meaningful and lasting impact on the broader conversation surrounding neurodiversity. #Neurodivergence #AutismAwarenessMonth #AutismAcceptance #Advocacy #Representation #Complexity #Diversity #Understanding #Acceptance #Tokenism #Awareness #Community #Support #MTICBIAI #MyTraumaIsChronicButIAmIconic

This is profound autism. This is why four more years lacking specific clauses for funding, research, and equitable representation guaranteed for profound autism is unacceptable. Neutrality is unacceptable. Many families will collapse and lives will be lost over the next four years if we continue to allow autistic individuals that have the verbal and cognitive capacity for effective self-advocacy to eclipse and sanitize the existence of this population which has yet to be afforded equitable access to the progress of ADA and Olmstead. Their voices matter, and they should be heard, but so should these! We demand reform. NO ONE should think this is ok! We urge all autistic allies to join us in supporting our pursuit of health equity. For a solutions-oriented approach, attend tomorrow's free webinar with Ley Linder at 6ET.
