Microsoft will soon automatically lock unlicensed OneDrive for Business accounts. Users with expired licenses will lose access, and to regain it, they must pay for a valid subscription. This policy is part of Microsoft's strategy to enforce proper licensing and could impact businesses that haven't kept their subscriptions up to date. Ensuring your accounts are licensed will prevent service disruptions. #Microsoft #OneDrive #CloudStorage #BusinessTech #ITSecurity

Way back in 2007, Microsoft launched SkyDrive, the online file storage predecessor to OneDrive. I was an early adopter and really used SkyDrive, it was intuitive, easy to use and allowed me to sync my data to multiple devices and the cloud. In 2014, Microsoft killed SkyDrive and introduced the platform as OneDrive. The storage and functionality was a bit different from SkyDrive and later OneDrive for Business was introduced, us-ing storage based on SharePoint. Now, Microsoft is giving OneDrive a fresh new look and added some powerful function-ality. They teased this update last month, and it's finally rolling out to OneDrive personal us-ers. By the end of the month, all of us will be enjoying the revamped OneDrive experi-ence. So, what's so new? People View: Say goodbye to the file name memory game. Now, see all the files you col-laborate on with your contacts in one place. File filtering: Want to find all those Word documents or Excel spreadsheets on your OneDrive? Filter files by type, and you have instant organization. One button power: The "Add New" button is now your best friend. It not only lets you upload to OneDrive but also start a new document in a snap. With these enhancements, OneDrive may become a good consideration for (insecure) cloud storage. #Microsoft #OneDrive #FileStorage https://lnkd.in/e57Q82Ed

Microsoft folks! Does anyone know who's responsible for "Microsoft Storage"? It's counting all Microsoft account storage in the same bucket, rather than counting email and file storage separately. I subscribe to O365 as part of my Alumni network. I forgot to request a new key this year--I've forgotten before, and it's no big deal. Basically, my OneDrive is over the "free tier" storage limit and I can't access it for the days when my subscription is expired. Get my key, renew my O365, all is good. This year, I forgot again. Lo and behold, my email storage is now part of my Microsoft Storage: part of my OneDrive storage limit! Because I forgot to pay Microsoft I was unable to receive email for two days. I tested from another account--all my emails were bouncing due to storage limits. This is a legitimately hostile user experience. I do not want to tie my email address to a storage subscription. I doubt anyone would want to do so. I'm not using huge amounts of email storage (or my 1TB paid OneDrive storage.) But my primary email got cut off because of my mistake. My options are: 1) Find the PM who thought tying email to storage was a great idea and get them to fix it 2) Stop using Microsoft services for either my cloud storage or my email Can any of my Microsoft peeps help before I migrate all my critical accounts to a GMail or ditch my file storage for a simpler, less integrated solution? Right now I would NOT recommend using a Microsoft email as your primary if you also pay for O365.
