🌟✨ On National Homeless Persons' Remembrance Day, Good Works Grant Writing honors the lives of those impacted by homelessness and highlights organizations making a difference in their communities. 🚐💙 Today, Good Works shines a spotlight on Elaine - SDOH Transportation, a nonprofit transforming lives in Phoenix. Founded in January 2019, Elaine was named in memory of Elaine Herzberg, who tragically lost her life while experiencing homelessness. Inspired by her legacy, Elaine’s mission is to connect Arizona’s homeless and underserved people to critical resources by eliminating transportation barriers. Their vision is to become a national provider of transportation services in the pursuit of eliminating disparities. 🌟 What began as free transportation for adults experiencing homelessness has since expanded to serve elderly and disabled adults, as well as others without access to traditional subsidies. These services open doors to resources that promote self-sufficiency, healthy living, and improved Social Determinants of Health. 🏥🚗 Good Works is proud to have partnered with Elaine as a #GoodWorksClient since 2020, supporting their efforts to break down barriers and build stronger, healthier communities. 💛🌎 📲 Learn more about Elaine and other inspiring Good Works Clients here: https://lnkd.in/eJW3p8Np #HomelessPersonsRemembranceDay #ElaineHerzbergLegacy #TransportationForChange #GoodWorksImpact #EndHomelessness #EliminatingBarriers #SocialDeterminantsOfHealth #HomelessnessAwareness #CommunitySupport #TransportationMatters #NonprofitSpotlight #PhoenixNonprofits

Together We Thrive Campaign: From Streets to Home A heartfelt thank you to the incredible volunteers from Phillip Nova, PhillipCapital, and Agility Fund Management who joined us last Saturday morning for a meaningful learning journey Bless Community Services' shelter for the homeless. On a Saturday morning, when many would opt for extra rest or time with loved ones, 30 of you showed up on time and dedicated your morning to improving the lives of our #shelter residents. From packing fruit bags, cleaning fridges and lockers, organizing food inventory, sorting clothes from Re-UNIQLO, to scrubbing floors – every effort made a significant impact. The shelter now looks clean, tidy, and well-organized, all thanks to your hard work. After the cleaning session, our #CareCoordinator Joseph gave an insightful talk about homelessness and rough sleepers. As our CEO Rick Toh shared, (quoting from Homeless Hearts of Singapore), addressing homelessness isn’t just about providing a roof over someone’s head – it’s about addressing deeper issues like #social isolation, #mental health, and building #relationships. Sometimes, the best way to help is simply to #listen – to understand, not to solve. For many, a conversation or the kindness of a friend can restore hope and help them rebuild their lives. #Volunteers also had the opportunity to share lunch with our stayers and hear their stories firsthand, further deepening their understanding of the challenges faced. This #learningjourney was a success, not only in making the shelter a better place but also in sharing and inspiring 30 volunteers to continue advocating for the homeless. As we work to overcome #misconceptions and promote #compassion and #inclusivity in our society, we are grateful for the continued support and interest in volunteering. If you would like to get involved, contribute, or learn more about our work, please click the link to donate, https://lnkd.in/gTZVeyEm contact us to arrange a learning journey for your company, or join us as a volunteer. 6288 9377 Email: enquiries@bless.org.sg Together, we can help build a more inclusive and kind society. #CommunitySupport #HomelessnessAwareness #Volunteering #SocialImpact #InclusiveSociety #Advocacy #BlessCommunityServices

Inspired by a recent presentation with Tamarra A. Coleman for Leadership Kenosha, I reflected on how communities like ours can come together during the holiday season to address rising needs. This article was published in Sunday's edition of the Kenosha News. In 2024, community support is more crucial than ever. Data from United Way of Kenosha County partner IMPACT 211 reveals growing requests for housing, mental health support, and food assistance—a stark reminder of the challenges many local families face. 📊 Key insights from January–September 2024: - Housing assistance accounted for up to 32.3% of 211 calls each quarter. - Mental health service requests rose by 57% in Q3, while substance use calls increased by 55%. - Food assistance demand climbed steadily, stressing the need for vital resources like food pantries. Local organizations, including the Shalom Center, Sharing Center, Inc., Salvation Army, and St. Vincent De Paul Society, have been lifelines for those in need, showing the power of community action. 💛 At United Way of Kenosha County, we’re proud to support IMPACT 211 and other essential programs through our Community Investment grant program. But we can’t do this alone. This holiday season, we invite you to: 👉 Donate to support local programs. https://lnkd.in/gxYw8mBF 👉 Volunteer to make a direct impact. https://lnkd.in/g2XkYaE6 👉 Share resources to connect families in need. https://lnkd.in/gxac_fGG Together, we can offer hope and help create a brighter future for everyone in Kenosha County. 🌟 Let’s make a difference, one act of kindness at a time. 🌟 #LiveUNITED #IMPACT211 #KenoshaCounty #CommunitySupport #HopeForTheHolidays

Advocating for Accurate Count and Genuine Support for the Homeless in Midland, TX As we approach the annual Point-in-Time (PIT) count this Thursday, it’s crucial to reflect on the realities facing our homeless community here in Midland, Texas. In 2024, it was reported that there are 138 individuals sleeping on the streets, a number that raises alarm and demands our attention. This figure does not include those sheltered, and while organizations like the Salvation Army do Amazing work to keep those unsheltered numbers low, we must not lose sight of the challenges that remain. As a volunteer with Backyard Midland, an organization dedicated to feeding and supporting the homeless on rhe weekends, I’ve witnessed firsthand the fluctuating numbers in our community. Throughout this year, we’ve seen highs of 42 individuals seeking help and lows of just 12. Recently, we’ve settled at around 20 individuals during the first weeks of January. These numbers are not just statistics; they represent real people with real stories, struggles, and hopes. It’s disheartening to see how some nonprofit organizations may create a sense of emergency to raise funds, often directing the majority of those resources toward staff salaries rather than direct assistance to those in need. This cycle of misrepresentation can make it even harder for genuine organizations to make a difference. Backyard Midland has no paid employees and is run by all local volunteers. That’s why I urge everyone to advocate for a fair and accurate count during this upcoming PIT count. We need to ensure that the numbers reflect the true state of homelessness in Midland, allowing us to allocate resources effectively and make a meaningful impact. Each individual counts, and each story matters. Let’s work together to support our homeless community authentically. By promoting transparency and accuracy, we can help ensure that those out on the streets receive the help they truly deserve. Join me in speaking up for those who need it most! #MidlandTX #HomelessnessAwareness #Advocacy #BackyardMidland

Creating welcoming communities for the homeless 🏠 I've been reflecting on how we can foster more inclusive and welcoming communities for the homeless. It's a pressing issue, especially as winter sets in and the need for shelter becomes even more critical. One approach that stands out is the integration of community centres that offer not just a place to stay, but also access to essential services like healthcare, job training, and mental health support. These centres can serve as a hub for rebuilding lives and fostering a sense of belonging. Another idea is to encourage local businesses to participate in 'pay-it-forward' schemes. Imagine if every café or restaurant had an option for customers to buy an extra meal or coffee for someone in need. This small act of kindness can make a significant difference and help bridge the gap between the homeless and the rest of the community. It's about creating a culture of empathy and support, where everyone feels valued and included. Lastly, let's not underestimate the power of community engagement. Volunteering our time, donating resources, or even just having a conversation with someone who is homeless can break down barriers and build understanding. By working together, we can create a more inclusive society where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. What are your thoughts? How can we make our communities more welcoming for the homeless? Let's discuss! 💬 #CommunitySupport #HomelessnessAwareness #InclusiveCommunities #vetro #vetrorecruitment
