🍕📦 Pizza Hut’s Frozen Aisle Prank—Would It Make You Laugh or Fume? 🤔 Imagine this: you’re at the supermarket, craving pizza. 🍕 You spot what looks like a frozen Pizza Hut pizza, perfect for a quick dinner. But when you get home, ready to pop it into the oven… surprise! 🎉 The box is EMPTY! Instead of a frozen pizza, there’s a cheeky note saying, “Sorry, we don’t do frozen pizzas. What’s the hardest optimisation under conditions of uncertainty problem? 🍩What mix of donuts to buy for your child’s birthday party?! 🤯We’ve got experience of this - there is no good solution let alone an optimal one… All the same - if so, which one do you pick? Mix - you never have enough of the one they all decide they want. It’s a complex adaptive system and once one decides “Oreo donuts are the best”, you get a state change in preferences/behavior. 🤺One of each - then it’s a fight to the front of the queue or you have to run a lottery? We have a prior that Oreo donuts are especially prized by under 10s. No Oreo donuts available today… 🦄There are now “Pink Unicorns” - how prized will these be?! As with most optimisations, constraints are your friend. One or two with dietary requirements can be filled pretty easily as not many options. We’ve gone for a roughly equally split across three core options, essentially an error minimisation/least regret approach. ⁉️Any alternative suggestions? #OptimisationProblems #WeekendChallenges

I was just about to ask my LinkedIn contacts if there are any good examples of businesses using the Christmas wisely to fill their restaurants in Jan/Feb and this looks like a great idea. As Christmas is the time of giving I'm interested to see which businesses are willing to sacrifice some immediate cash for tomorrow's wealth. By this I mean if you've got a place full of customers enjoying the festivities what is the strategy for getting them to come back in Jan and Feb? 80% of businesses will just hope they remember what a good time they had and happily walk back through the door but hope is not a strategy. The top 20% will make sure no one leaves without something (physical or virtual) that makes it a no brainer for the customers to come back. Cash today or wealth tomorrow?
