While Melbourne has dominated the conversation in recent years, Queensland also provides valuable insights for Auckland as it tackles level-crossing removals in Tāmaki Makaurau. Our team in Australia assisted the Queensland Government in removing the rail level crossing at Boundary Road in Brisbane. What stood out to me in this case study is the importance of a precinct approach and enabling this in a staged manner. I agree with Kieran Cook—this approach goes beyond safety and focuses on community needs and the broader impacts of infrastructure changes. 👷♀️👷♂️The Australian Government is committing $1.9 billion towards 14 new #infrastructure projects and additional funding for existing projects in #WesternSydney, #NSW. The new investments include #construction projects, as well as #planning projects, including: - Mamre Road Stage 2 Upgrade - Elizabeth Drive – Priority Sections Upgrade - Garfield Road East Upgrade - Memorial Avenue Upgrade - Appin Road – St Johns Road Intersection Upgrade 💡The Government will invest $147.5 million for planning for roads and rail across greater Western Sydney to ensure that road infrastructure can keep pace with a growing population. 💲$20 million will be invested to partner with the NSW Government to expand the scope of the South West Sydney Rail Planning – Business Case to include consideration of extending the line to the Macarthur region. Sydney Metro is the biggest urban rail project in Australian history. Sydney Metro West (SMW) is a 24-kilometer (15 mi) #underground expansion of Sydney Metro that will link the Parramatta and #Sydney central business districts (CBDs) and the communities in between. The completion of the SMW line is part of the Future Transport Strategy’s vision of “30-minute cities,” with a goal of improving public transport networks and services to ensure 30-minute access to key destinations 24/7. SMW is being delivered in three stages: Central Tunnelling Package (CTP); Western Tunnelling Package (WTP); and our scope, Eastern Tunnelling Package (ETP). The first two stages, CTP and WTP, are currently under construction. ETP, which is 3.5 kilometers (2.2 mi) of tunnel, will service growing populations of the western suburbs of Sydney, Australia, from greater Parramatta to Sydney CBD.
