Reflecting on my work as a community nutritionist,Field assistant,project assistant during the recent drought crisis in Turkana,i am reminded of the critical role that nutrition plays in saving lives during emergencies. In collaboration with WVK,Local government,donors like Unicef and community health workers,i spearheaded activities like outreaches,mass screening,smart survey,dry runs,data entry,monitoring and evaluation in the emergency nutrition programs,rapid malnutrition assesments and food distribution.These efforts focused on identifying and addressing acute malnutrition among vulnerable populations,especially children,pregrant and lactating women.I got the experience to initiate community moblization to ensure swift identification and support for at risk individuals,importance of intergrating culturally appropriate interventions in emergency response and urgent need for long term ressilience strategies to mitigate the impact of future crises. As we look ahead,investing in sustainable nutrition systems and preparedness is essential.I'm eager to connect with like minded professionals to exchange ideas and drive impactful solutions for vulnerable communities.#emergencyresponse #droughtrelief #malnutrition #sustainablesolution #endmotherchildandinfantmortality

Family-led Mid-Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC) initiatives are yielding positive results in nutrition surveillance, early detection, and timely referrals in Chipinge. With support from UNICEF Zimbabwe and the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF), World Vision Zimbabwe is partnering with the Ministry of Health and Child Care in empowering Lead Mothers to take proactive measures in screening children under five years old for malnutrition as part of the El Niño Nutrition Response Project. “With the MUAC tape, I can monitor my children’s health and also the children from my Care Group. It feels empowering to know we can make a difference right from our homes,” says Esther, a Lead Mother from Hwapera Village, Chipinge. Malnutrition, micronutrient deficiencies, and preventable infections threaten the health and future of countless children in Papua New Guinea. With unwavering dedication, UNICEF, the government, health workers, teachers, partners, and communities are transforming this reality. In just 12 months: ◾ Health workers treated 16,000 children for severe acute malnutrition, saving lives and restoring hope. ◾Partners helped deliver essential micronutrients to over 92,000 children, boosting their growth, learning, and immunity. ◾Teams provided 935,680 children with Vitamin A supplements, protecting them against deficiency and boosting their health. ◾Deworming campaigns reached 766,000 children, safeguarding them from infections that hinder their development. ◾Schools distributed iron and deworming supplements to 344,000 children and taught them vital nutrition lessons, ensuring they stay energized and focused inside the class. These remarkable results reflect the commitment and collaboration of everyone involved. We thank health workers, teachers, partners, and the National Departments of Education and Health for their relentless efforts.
