Congratulations to Zoe Belle Gender Collective (ZBGC) and everyone involved for the launch of new resources supporting the trans and gender diverse community at the Pride Centre yesterday. These resources include: the "Transfemme Practice Guide" for practitioners addressing the objectification and exploitation of trans women by cis men, "Gender Euphoria & Sex" for trans individuals exploring gender, sex, and consent, and "Gender Diversity, Sex & Consent" for those seeking to understand healthy sexual relationships with trans people. Guided, consulted, and written by those most impacted by violence—particularly trans women, especially women of colour and those with forcibly displaced experiences—these resources address rigid structures around intimate, sexual, and other forms of relationships. They demystify social stigma, expectations, and pressures on relationships between men and women. These resources are crucial for ensuring the safety and fulfilment of trans and gender diverse individuals by promoting understanding, respect, and healthy relationships. In Canada, approximately 75,000 people (aged 15 or older) are transgender or gender diverse. According to a 2018 survey on the experiences of violent victimization and unwanted sexual behaviors among 2SLGBTQI+ communities, transgender and gender diverse people are 59% more likely than cisgender people to be physically or sexually assaulted at least once in their life. Everyone has the right to live free from violence. However, many people in Canada continue to face violence every day because of their gender, gender expression, gender identity or perceived gender. Super proud of Zoe Belle Gender Collective (ZBGC) with their Transfemme project second launch campaign. " From small things big things grow" - from a humble beginning, on the porch where our elders talked , through the mini screens we shared during lockdowns to a packed theatrerette with extra seats required at Victorian Pride Centre; historical resilience of Trans - and trans feminine people once again broke the ceiling. To be with my sisters, following the footsteps of many Matrons before us, continuing paving the path for generations to come, it has been a huge privilege being involved in this. #Safety is all about prevention and education, safety framework development should not require quantitative measures to transpire action. Women, of colour, particularly of trans experience though spoken on the lips of many equality advocates, cited in queer acknowledgement; they are often neglected and not considered in consultation, being silent or dismissed when their truths do not benefit mainstream agenda. Trans women, of colour, of forcibly displaced background are at the centre of impacts given the many intersections they carry: family and sexual violence, accessibility to services, social security, race and gender-based discrimination etc. When we address their issues, we address the many missing gaps on the road of equality. Thank you to allies and gender equity advocates for supporting Transfemme. Inclusive Allyship is truly the key. Most importantly, big thanks to my sisters for overcoming their intrapersonal barriers to keep speaking their truth. We were there from the beginning, we shall be here together, until the end of time. Amao Leota Lu Rebeckah Loveday #LGBTIQA #Genderequity #Prevention

Too often, Canadians assume that our country is free from anti-queer sentiment. Those of us who live in the community know that's far from true. In order to truly establish safe environments, we need to be aware of how those environments exist now. If you want to improve your own or your organization's equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility, first familiarize yourself with how people outside your sphere experience Canada.

Beyond the trans/cis binary: introducing new terms will enrich gender research We need terms such as ‘gender modality’ that are flexible enough to capture the nuances of human experience but pragmatic enough to serve science, argue three scholars of bioethics and sexual health.. “How people identify shapes not only their experiences of marginalization, but also their bodies — be it by influencing their smoking habits, whether they exercise, what they eat or whether they undergo hormone therapy or transition-related surgeries,” they explain. Including more than binary categories where appropriate can enhance studies’ validity, sharpen research questions and help scientists to think about what they are really trying to capture, the trio says. #Gender #Research #Academia #Health

I am thrilled to share that I recently had the opportunity to present a motion for "Paid Menstrual Leave" at Judicial Training and Research Institute (JTRI), Lucknow. During my presentation, I delved into the critical question: will such a policy help or hinder women at work? The discussion explored diverse perspectives. Some argue that Paid Menstrual Leave is an essential extension of women's sexual and reproductive rights, promoting their well-being and productivity. Others raise concerns that it might widen the gender gap, potentially hampering gender equality in the workplace. This debate underscores the complexity of balancing rights and equality in our evolving work environments. #GenderEquality #WorkplaceInclusion #WomensRights #MenstrualLeave #JTRI
