The Survivors ... This past weekend Brandy Old, Jill Langer, Mina Demian, Wendy Muise, and I facilitated a Startup Bootcamp (https://lnkd.in/gZHucyXT) for those looking to start a side hustle or full-time business that was hosted at Bow Valley College. Those in the picture survived the full weekend and live to tell about it. During the weekend, the 70+ registrants learned the Top 10 Mistakes Entrepreneurs Make, the 10 Steps to Starting Your First Side-hustle or Business and how to: - Find a problem worth solving - Identify your riskiest assumptions - Uncover your Ideal Client Profile (ICP) - Create a compelling value proposition - Identify what your ‘real’ competition is - Calculate the size of your target market - Understand the top 3 reasons customers buy - Conduct effective problem validation interviews - Discover the cheapest ways to test your riskiest assumptions - Complete a 3-year financial analysis and KPI dashboard in under 30 minutes A special shout-out to Neil Jacobsen from the University of New Brunswick in Saint John for flying over 3,500 kilometres to join us and for taking the group picture, Scott Ford from SparkRockets and Anton Yakushin from Venture Blocks for making cameo appearances from Boulder and Boston A common theme in the feedback was ... I came to be informed and left inspired.

Welcome back to our journey, lifestyles of the no so rich yet or famous Founders. Busy week living the grind. We are considering getting some outside help with seeking investments. I have myself sending cold e-pitches every day to tailored lists of possible investors. Thank you Rubén D. and Tian Shi for sharing posts with helpful lists. Everyone talks about how doggy-dog the start-up world is but I keep finding awesome helpful people sharing. No bites yet, but there is a big world to share Salesium with. Going to mention again that we made the finals for National Entrepreneurs Association and Dell Technologies nationwide pitch contest. If you are an investor, founder looking to see what else is out there, or just like me register and watch us pitch on April 17th at 5: https://lnkd.in/eh_jPqJ9 Had a fantastic chat with CHRISTINA FARINACCI-ROBERTS about making Salesium friendlier to searching for diverse business owners. If you need quality coaching for your business in the Capital District she is da bomb! We are constantly working on creating the best connection between communities and their small businesses. If you work in this space reach out. Finally had a great call with Chris Davis and Deep Kalina from Intuitio Labs. Even though it turns out we aren't ready for their service they rolled up their sleeves and gave me some great pointers on further development and how we can be more attractive to investors. Exactly what I mentioned at the beginning, kindness personified. If you are a founder or investor connect. We can definitely help each other. Recently, I found myself on the shoulders of unexpected giants: million-dollar businesses, multiple exits, scalable education, angel investors, and tech no one ever thinks about. Meanwhile, I'm a newbie #founder with a camera, going from 0 to 1 🙂 . I met them at the Founders Circle SG/BKK hosted by Paul Meyers and HReasily last weekend. I had no idea what to expect ,but I was quickly surprised at the conversation I found myself in. It was refreshing to hear other entrepreneurs' challenges and contribute to the conversation. #perspectives Speaking to other founders is truly a new experience but holds a familiar feeling. The best way I can describe it is talking to colleagues again, which is a great remedy for entrepreneurial loneliness. Some key thing I took away was that no matter where you are in the journey, there's always something that needs fixing, and you can't dwell on past mistakes. Reflect, put together a plan, and try again. Fast. Speaking to other founders helps a lot with putting ideas in place and re-prioritising. Highly recommend coming out to one of these #free meet-ups organised in SG or BKK. And I'll probably see you in the next round! ✌ It was a pleasure meeting you: Lauretta Alabons, Edmund Tan, Hadi H., and Andrew Mowat for the thoughtful conversations and insights into your industry. Special thanks to Paul Meyers for pulling it all together.

A few days ago, I had the chance to attend the Open Blue event, and honestly, it’s one of those moments that words just can't capture. Imagine a room buzzing with energy, filled with entrepreneurs sharing their journeys, dreams, and struggles. It felt like the kind of environment that makes you realize there’s so much more out there. There were five entrepreneurs who were already in the launch phase of their businesses, and listening to their stories was nothing short of inspiring. But what really gave me the jitters was when they announced a one-minute pitch session—and there were only 10 slots. Somehow, I found myself on that list. As I stood there waiting for my turn, I felt a mix of nerves and excitement. It was just a minute, but the stakes felt high. I wasn’t just sharing a business idea; I was putting a little piece of myself out there for everyone to see. When I finally took the stage, it was all a bit of a blur—my heart was racing, and my words were tumbling out, but there was this feeling of adrenaline that reminded me why I love doing what I do. The real magic, though, was in everything that happened off the stage. The conversations that sparked afterwards, the ideas that flew around the room, and the chance to connect with people who genuinely "get it." I met so many like-minded individuals who challenged the way I think, expanded my vision, and encouraged me to be more receptive to new ideas. And that’s when it hit me—this is what it’s all about. It’s not just about the pitch, or even the business idea. It’s about putting yourself out there and allowing the experience to shape you in unexpected ways. So, if I could share one takeaway, it would be this: Don’t wait for the “perfect” moment. Step out there, even if you’re nervous, even if you’re not sure what will happen. Sometimes, the most valuable experiences come from just showing up and letting the universe surprise you.

Thank you to everyone who joined our Founder/CEO, Adam Paulisick, at Carnegie Mellon University for today's "How to Win Friends and Influence Judges: The Lost Art of the Question & Answer Experience" workshop—thank you for bringing your energy, questions, and commitment! Most people think a great presentation ends with the pitch – but that’s often where the real, make-or-break moment begins. The toughest questions from investors, panelists, fellow entrepreneurs, or audience members reveal whether your venture is truly differentiated. Today’s session was all about anticipating these high-stakes questions, especially the challenging ones, and crafting responses that showcase your expertise, including: - Identifying different types of tough questions (polar, open, closed, and more) and strategies to handle each with confidence - Developing answer patterns that drive urgency, heavy recall, and other impactful outcomes - Preparing for the 10 most likely make-or-break questions you’re likely to face in a live setting A special thank you to our organizers, including the Swartz Center for Entrepreneurship and Carnegie Mellon University - Tepper School of Business teams, for making this session possible! Best of luck to everyone we spoke to who plans to use these lessons when pitching at the upcoming McGinnis Venture Competition, in their fundraising efforts, or out closing deals!

Final Reflection We met our goals from the beginning of the year. Our main goal was to find an idea we all liked and then try to create a quality business from it. We started with an idea and did a lot with it, but we decided to pivot because we weren't heavily invested in it. When we pivoted we all enjoyed the process and the idea and we started to enjoy the class more. Our goal was never to go to pitch night but to try and hustle a business that could make us money. We ended up making 7 sales and we feel that if we put in more effort we could've had many sales. Something that I wish we had done differently was pivoting earlier. We didn't like our idea at the beginning and the only reason that we kept doing it was because we couldn't find another idea. If we had found our current idea earlier I'm sure that we could've developed even more. I learned a lot about business during this class. I learned about some of the laws involved in startup business and how they work. I learned about marketing and sales tactics and how to get your product out there to consumers. I also received a lot of great advice from our mentor and Mr. Neubauer about how to act as an adult in the business world. They helped me a lot and I feel like I wouldn't be as knowledgeable today about the business world. Overall, I loved the incubator class and I have no regrets about taking it.

🚀 One thing I've learnt as an entrepreneur is that I actually really love pitching - and helping others to pitch with confidence too! 😬 Don't get me wrong, I still get nervous every single time. But there's a reason why the 20-hour, 100-hour or even 10,000-hour rules exist - the more practice you put in, the better you get. I still vividly remember the first time I stood up to present in front of a room, I was a young intern at Intel and my then-boss got me (made me?!) do it.... My hands shook, my voice quivered and I went red from chest to cheek. Thankfully that doesn't happen any more (but maybe its one of the reasons why I'm so partial to a scarf?! 😂) and I now jump at the chance to pitch In Good Company. And that has also led to a ton of incoming requests for Pitch Training from us! 🚀 We've now worked the likes of Innovate UK Business Connect, Youth Business International and Startup Discovery School to support countless impact and purpose-driven founders and business owners - with rave reviews. So I'm super excited that we've now teamed up again with The Trampery | Certified B Corpto host a special pitching masterclass on Wednesday 2 October at their amazing Fish Island campus. We'll cover the essentials of crafting a powerful narrative, structuring an effective pitch, and mastering public speaking, plus you'll hear from an experienced investor about what he looks for, with plenty of time for Q&A. 🎫 Limited spaces available and tickets are now on sale for just £18. Snap yours up before they go! https://lnkd.in/eURCU8_i #sustainablebusiness #ethicalbusiness #socialimpact #socialentrepreneur #femalefounders
