CNC is pleased to announce the results of the film financiang competition 2024! CNC has completed the processing of the dossiers submitted for the film project financing competition. The competition takes place in two stages, with 31 projects submitted in the first phase. 24 of them qualified for the second stage. In the first stage, the scripts were evaluated by an international evaluation committee, which scored their quality on a scale from 1 to 10, depending on the project category. This year's evaluation committee members were film directors and producers from Romania and Moldova, including Olga Lucovnicova, Marian Crișan, Ionuț Mareș, Iulia Rugina, and Otilia Babara. This was followed by the public presentation of the projects in a pitch, where both the competition participants and the general public had the opportunity to learn about the projects submitted to the competition. The public presentation evaluation jury was composed of film producers with extensive careers in the field, namely Helle Hansen vid Neyst (Denmark), noemi schory (Israel), and Iuliana Tarnovetchi (Romania). The pitch was initiated by CNC three years ago to better develop film projects with potential. Total results of stage I: https://lnkd.in/dpN_9Kkz In the second stage of the competition, the successes and performances of the director and producer are evaluated based on their previous work, taking into account selections and awards at international festivals and public success. This year, the available budget for supporting film projects is 8,300,000 MDL (435.150,47 EUR). The funding decision is made by the CNC Council based on the project ratings, the ceilings set for each project category, within the available budget. Detailed results of stage II can be found here: https://lnkd.in/dpyQm9PV The quality of the competition has improved thanks to changes in the competition regulations and the support of development partners: the Future Technologies Project, funded by USAID, Sweden, and the United Kingdom. We also thank our partners at the Onisifor Ghibu Library in Chișinău, where the public presentation of the projects in the first stage of the competition took place. Thus, this year's list of winners includes 10 projects (4 co-production: fiction feature films, 3 feature films: 1 documentary, 2 fiction films, 2 short films, and 1 project in development), among which renowned names from Romanian cinema, such as Cristi Puiu and Tudor Giurgiu, and Alexandru Mavrodineanu, Ukranian director and writer Daria Onyshchenko , both awarded and young Moldovan filmmakers - Valeriu Andriuță, Eugen Marian, Vlad Bolgarin, Lucia Lupu, Daniela Miron&Diana Vlas. *Unleashing Creativity with Sora: A New Era for Artists and Agencies!* Exciting times lie ahead for creatives in the digital realm! 🌟 Sora, is revolutionizing the way creative agencies, musicians, animators, and digital artists bring their visions to life! From the surreal short film “Air Head” by the multimedia prodigies at shy kids, to the abstract expressionism embraced by director Paul Trillo, Sora is breaking the barriers of reality and enabling the creation of the utterly surreal. Musicians like August Kamp are finding new avenues to express their artistry, while creative agencies such as Native Foreign are rapidly iterating brand narratives without the constraints of budget. Digital artists and AR/XR creators are now focusing on pure creativity, thanks to Sora’s ability to prototype ideas swiftly. Josephine Miller’s 3D visuals and Don Allen Stevenson III’s hybrid creatures are just a glimpse of the potential unleashed. If you haven't seen them, go watch them at: https://lnkd.in/dqf7pyKw Sora isn’t just a tool; it’s a gateway to the future of storytelling and art. #CreativeRevolution #Sora #DigitalArtistry

Spotlight on Sweden 💡 The Southern Sweden Film Commission, a member of CineRegio Green, is one of the advocates for sustainability within the Swedish film and TV industry. Some of the efforts that the commission has contributed this past year are as follows: • Throughout the past year, the Swedish sustainability tool; Hållbar film, has been updating its content and workflow thanks to the support of the Swedish film funds. As the film commissioners have wanted for a long time, they have now also launched a version in English, making it more accessible for coproductions. The tool is created to shift filmmakers’ mindsets around the production process and works especially well for making sustainability plans. The tool consists of 100 organizational, environmental and social sustainability questions. It has been inspired by gamification to enhance user-friendliness, as it takes you through a planning, production and evaluation phase. You can find the tool and request an account here: https://lnkd.in/dr66AzTn • During the Gothenburg Film Festival, two events on sustainability gained extra attention, both supported by the commission. The first was a panel discussion at the Nordic Film Market which showcased case studies of sustainable film productions by Swedish and Danish producers. The other was a study where a regular TV series budget was compared to a more sustainable budget, taking both social and environmental aspects into consideration, which pointed towards savings of up to 1 million SEK through the more sustainable choices. The event was filmed and can be seen here https://lnkd.in/d_RAWDgf

Is film show or business ? We are asking this question at this year´s #FutureGreenland conference. Greenland has many resources that have attracted explorers and visitors from abroad for centuries: Whale oil, seal skin, fish, prawns, raw materials, ice, water and more. But is there a resource that we have not spoken too much of yet ? Could our people be this resource ? And perhaps backed by our magnificient nature ? Greenland is a fantastic backdrop and the talent here is probably much higher per capita than in many other countries. Somehow culture and art take up a unique place in Greenlandic society. Come take a look or at least join us at the conference on the 14-15th May 2024 where we look into making the film industry a future sustainable business in Greenland. Screen Producers Ireland attended Wednesday's meeting of the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Tourism, Culture, Arts, Sport and Media. The Committee discussed “Supports for the development of Regional Film and TV Production”. SPI made four key recommendations to the Committee: - Development of a regional filming strategy, that covers both infrastructure and funding, over a 10-year period to enable the screen industry to be embedded regionally. - Increase the Screen Ireland Nationwide Additional Production fund to €10M. - Recommend that Government Departments, working together, develop a reimagined way to implement the Section 481 regional uplift scheme outside the Dublin/Wicklow area using a new regional aid map. - Support the Section 481 Gaeltacht Uplift proposal but we feel it requires further consideration on its implementation by Departments of Finance and Culture. SPI were represented by Anthony Muldoon, Director of Strategic Policy, and SPI Board Members Maggie Breathnach and James Hickey who advocated strongly for the regional development of the audio-visual sector. Also in attendance were representatives from Animation Ireland, Ardán, Ardmore Studios & Troy Studios, and Telegael. The Discussion centred around: - The practical experience of people working within the sector in regions outside of Dublin and Wicklow. - The importance of acquiring a more in-depth understanding of how the sector operates regionally. - Potential solutions that would address the regional imbalances in production activity across the country. There was positive engagement with all Committee members who exhibited a strong commitment to supporting policy interventions that would develop the audiovisual industry regionally. This meeting was part of a series of meetings which focused on regional production and the actions that are needed to stimulate regional filmmaking. The Committee will develop a report based on the feedback from these meetings which will be delivered to Government before the next budget. The full meeting can be watched back here: https://lnkd.in/enwECn28
