Two young lives were lost, and countless questions unanswered
On May 19, two IT professionals, Ashwini and Anish, were brutally taken from us in a senseless tragedy. A 17-year-old minor, driving an unregistered Porsche at 150 km/h, snatched away their futures. But that's not the only outrage - the circumstances surrounding this incident will leave you stunned:
- An unregistered car delivered by a showroom?
- A minor driving without a license, enabled by parents?
- A club serving alcohol to a minor?
- Traffic police failing to notice an overspeeding, unregistered car for months?
- VIP treatment and swift bail for the minor, while common people face delays?
Ordinarily, traffic police are quick to penalize us for minor infractions they aggressively fine us for not wearing helmets, not carrying licenses, or PUC certificates. So, why didn’t they take action on a flashy car without a number plate speeding on a deserted road at night?
Moreover, when the police arrested the culprit who destroyed two families, they provided him with biryani, pizza, and burgers behind closed doors. The shameless, wealthy brat eats without any guilt for taking two lives.
Two lives were lost, and the court granted bail on a Sunday as if awarding a prize, with conditions like:
- Writing a 300-word long essay,
- Taking advice from a psychiatrist,
- Learning traffic rules for 15 days.
More punishment is given in schools. Here, two youngsters died. Yet here, bail is granted in 15 hours. Astonishing.
Why does the law treat people with privilege differently?
This incident is a stark reminder of the systemic flaws that prioritize privilege over accountability. This tragedy is a wake-up call for all of us to reflect on our responsibilities as citizens.
My heart goes out to the families of the victims. As a society, we must stand with them in their fight for justice and ensure the guilty are held accountable.
Let this incident remind us that we all have a role in creating a safer and more responsible society. Only then can we prevent such tragedies from happening again.
Rest in peace, Ashwini and Aneesh. May your loss awaken our collective conscience to build a better society for all.

3moMy sister always said the true extend to which knife crime was a problem was completely hidden. We spend way too much time as a community demonising young people, instead of recognising that this is a symptom of something far more complex and pervasive than we are willing to admit. Stereotypes, assumptions and media glorification serves no one. Such an honour to work with you Kieran.
