It's good to see promising attendance and ticket revenue figures in 2023 from Live Performance Australia. LPA's Evelyn Richardson said: ‘Despite cost of living pressures, Australians continued to strongly support live performance. It’s clear they value engagement with all categories of live performance, from ballet and dance, classical music and comedy through to musicals, theatre and festivals as well as tours by their favourite Australian and international acts.' However, she tempered that with words of warning about the future of our arts sector: ‘... behind the headline figures there continues to be real pressures on many of our performing arts organisations. It’s essential that governments at all levels recognise the cultural, social and economic importance of our live arts and entertainment industry and continue to invest in Australia’s creative capability and potential.' At Giving Culture, we also think the corporate sector can do a lot more too! As Evelyn puts it, the performance industry enriches 'Australia’s social and economic life': https://lnkd.in/gDa46JJD

Middle School Music Directors: As your state’s Solo and Ensemble Festival approaches, you're determined to see more of your students take center stage as soloists. Yet, the fear of failure and embarrassment holds them back. Here's your solution: Propel them forward by aiming for the prestigious National Scholastic Junior Band, Orchestra, or Choir Letter. Unlock the potential for growth as one of the requirements for this coveted Letter is a solo performance, adjudicated online. This serves as the perfect stepping-stone, building the confidence needed for a live performance at your state's Solo and Ensemble Festival. Why does it matter? Because stellar soloists are the backbone of formidable ensembles. It's a winning strategy — not only does solo excellence contribute to earning the National Scholastic Junior Band, Orchestra, or Choir Letter, but it also secures a double victory for those achieving at the 'Excellent' or 'Superior' level at the state festival. Research proves that students with individual awards are more likely to stay committed to your program. Empower your students to shine brightly at both your state's Solo and Ensemble Festival and the National Scholastic Junior Musicians Awards. Remember, it's not just a performance; it's a journey to lasting success and loyalty. Reference: https://lnkd.in/e6FrFQ5P

Can you help provide invaluable data to better understand experiences of electronic dance music events? There is still time to complete this important survey... With the nightlife industry struggling and it's position in our culture all too often undermined by those who do not see it's value, it is more important than ever to get an understanding of the experiences that attending nightclubs, festivals and dance music events offer. The research I am currently conducting aims to investigate and showcase the musical, emotional and social experiences on the dancefloor and how these different factors interact to shape our experience. All responses are invaluable, so if you have been to a dance music festival or night out in the last 12 months, please complete the survey below! http://t.ly/q5NfS

#Music #Festivals and #Leisure: "#Saudi #youth views on hosting #western music festivals: problematic performances and positive perceptions" by Gareth Butler & Alhussain Hothan Article available in World Leisure Journal, the official #journal of World Leisure Organization: https://lnkd.in/gTYBst4h ABSTRACT This exploratory study distils the views of Saudis aged 18–30 on hosting Western music festivals as part of the “Saudi Seasons” tourism strategy. Although the strategy has typically focused on developing cultural heritage tourism or business events, several Western music festivals have also been introduced. These festivals included prominent international music artists across various genres and represented a major shift in the types of tourism experiences previously found in Saudi Arabia. Most festivals were primarily designed to attract younger Saudi cohorts and therefore this study explored the views of the Saudi youth through a series of focus groups. Focus group participants revealed that Western music festivals presented a range of paradoxical issues and highlighted the complexity of rapidly developing new tourism experiences. Thus, this study underscores the critical importance of carefully cultivating future Western music festivals so that they produce positive social impacts within the conservative cultural and religious context of the country. #academia #researchpaper
