What's going on in Cambridgeshire? Construction News reports that the Crown Estate has revealed plans for a £1.5bn overhaul of a commercial district in eastern England to create a new science-led neighbourhood. The Treasury-sponsored body said Cambridge Business Park would feature more than 250 homes alongside laboratories and offices. Subject to planning consent, construction is expected to begin in 2026 with the new neighbourhood open and operational by 2030. The City of Surrey is developing a new Neighbourhood Concept Plan in East Cloverdale along the Surrey-Langley boundary, with a draft plan expected in 18 months. This plan will focus on supporting the Surrey Langley SkyTrain Project by supporting transit-oriented development and related infrastructure and amenities. Great to see Steve Rotheram re-elected as Mayor for the Liverpool City Region. His manifesto commitment to "develop a pipeline of Grey Belt* sites" is certainly welcome. It will be interesting to see how this manifesto commitment aligns with the emerging Spatial Development Strategy - which does not include any Green Belt review, or land use allocations. All 6 of the authorities that make up the Liverpool City Region have designated Green Belt land, and there seems little political appetite from any of them to see it developed. The SDS mirrors the adopted development plans in each LPA and effectively maintains the status quo in terms of housing and employment growth, so what will be the carrot and/or stick for developing a pipeline of Grey Belt sites? *Grey Belt sites understood to be parcels of land within the Green Belt that perform poorly against the purpose of including land within the Green Belt, as set out in the NPPF. #Housing #Planning #Liverpool

The 36 metre long pedestrian and cycle bridge over the A379, a key feature of the new residential development in Exeter, marks one year since it officially opened. Designed as a gateway feature, the structure will enable pedestrians and cyclists to cross the busy carriageway to access the new housing development, local school Matford Brook Academy and community facilities. Devon County Council is making significant strides towards its climate goals by enhancing connectivity and promoting active travel in Exeter. This bridge not only maximises efficiency and safety but also features architectural lighting with dynamic colour changes. Our multi-disciplinary team provided technical expertise to overcome complex ground conditions. By using reinforced earth structures for the abutments, they eliminated the need for deep foundations. The steel sections were prefabricated offsite, transported, and assembled on-site, culminating in a single crane lift. Edmund Metters, Director, Buro Happold, said “The team worked closely with GRAHAM Civil Engineering to ensure both the substructure and superstructure methodologies were aligned with their preferred methods. A crane lifted the assembled footbridge into its final position over the highway within a day’s possession to minimise disruption. To maximise sustainability, the team reduced material use through efficient steel design, which delivered significant embodied carbon savings. Cardiff Council and construction company Goldbeck have entered into a Pre-Contract Service Agreement (PCSA), taking the regeneration of Atlantic Wharf forward to the next stage. The PCSA marks a significant step in the development of smaller, more efficient County Hall; new facilities available for community use; wider regeneration of the area; and a home for Cardiff Live and the Capella project, a collaboration with the Wales Millennium Centre. https://lnkd.in/eyHZmdmu #cardiffbay
