Our Clinical and Policy Director, Dr Peter Hampson featured on BBC Radio 4's 'In Touch' programme to discuss the use of Optomap technology in identifying eye disease quickly and its potential impact on the eye care waiting list backlog. Peter explained the potential benefits of the technology for patients including picking up eye disease early when they are asymptomatic. But he stressed that such benefits will not be fully felt without adequate investment in improved IT connectivity between High Street optical practices and hospitals, to improve the referral pathway and avoid patients having to be moved between locations, where their care is being provided. SirPAD Study Update We are pleased to announce that the multicenter #SirPAD trial, which enrolled the first patient in November 2020, has successfully completed patient enrollment, with over 1,250 participants randomized. The SirPAD study was designed to investigate whether the use of sirolimus-coated balloons in patients with lower extremity #peripheral artery disease is non-inferior and ultimately superior to uncoated balloons in terms of unplanned major amputation or urgent revascularization.
