Several new articles have just come out on the topic covered in "Climate Risk at a Tipping Point?" Common themes: (i) the latest data on global land and sea temperatures doesn't fit into any single pattern observed in the past; (ii) we don't fully understand what is going on *right now*, and this hampers the confidence with which we can forecast future weather and climate; (iii) uncertainty about whether we are witnessing an outlier or a fundamental change in weather/climate dynamics. The CRUCIAL article is now updated with the latest data here: https://lnkd.in/e42k3iwR

Mapped: How climate change affects extreme weather around the world https://buff.ly/3wAGe4Q 71% of the 504 extreme weather events and trends included in the map were found to be made more likely or more severe by human-caused climate change. 9% of events or trends were made less likely or less severe by climate change, meaning 80% of all events experienced some human impact.

The #climate scientists are hopeless, infuriated and overwhelmed... After questioning about how high they thought global temperature would rise by 2100 the results were impresive: - Nearly 80% of those surveyed indicated a minimum rise of 2.5ºC from preindustrial levels. - Almost half anticipated a rise of at least 3ºC – a level of warming considered catastrophic. - Only 6% expressed confidence in achieving the 1.5ºC target. What percentage do you fall into? #climateaction #climatechange

Most of the climate change impacts are categorized as slow onset events in Egypt, however, heatwaves are the only clearly observed rapid onset event.

The U.S. NOAA agency reports a 50% chance that 2024 will surpass previous temperature records, primarily due to the ongoing impacts of El Niño. This prediction highlights the continuing trend of rising global temperatures and the increasing urgency of addressing climate change. https://lnkd.in/d-b9KK_C #GSPCrop #GrowBeyond #climatechange #temprature

Insightful 💡 "Extreme weather is by definition rare on our planet. Ferocious storms, searing heatwaves and biting cold snaps illustrate what the climate is capable of at its worst. However, since Earth’s climate is rapidly warming, predominantly due to fossil fuel burning, the range of possible weather conditions, including extremes, is changing." * https://lnkd.in/eKnZh5AD. New research highlights that climate change is intensifying #rainfall events in the UK. This year alone, 11 named #weather events have contributed to what could be one of the wettest years on record. Extreme rainfall events, which were once considered rare, are now occurring with increasing frequency due to human-induced climate change. For example, what might have been a heavy downpour occurring once every 50 years in a pre-industrial #climate is now around 10 times more likely to happen. Climate scientists estimate that human influence has increased the intensity of these events by approximately 20%, exacerbating their effects and highlighting the urgent need for adaptation and resilience strategies to manage these evolving weather patterns. #ClimateChange #Rainfall #Resilience https://lnkd.in/e4nAznJD

The Impact of Climate Change on Extreme Weather Events In recent decades, climate change has become a pressing global issue, significantly altering weather patterns and leading to an increase in extreme weather events. From devastating hurricanes to prolonged heatwaves and catastrophic floods, these events are not just anomalies but increasingly frequent occurrences. Scientists attribute these changes to rising global temperatures, which intensify atm...
