Why do we talk about how important play is? It is because this is how children (and adults) learn best. Think about how you feel and how long it takes to learn something when you are trying to learn something you are not interested in. Theorists and researchers over the years have shown the importance of play in learning. When children are hands-on, up to their elbows playing, they are learning. They are learning about the world around them, how things work, how to work with others, and all about themselves. Circle times, calendar times, and letter-of-the-week activities hold little value in authentic learning for children. Before mandating these activities, identify your goals. Is there another way to support these goals instead of making children sit still and listen to the adult? Children are not designed to sit! Let them play, stand back and watch the learning that is happening! . #play #playmatters #letthemplay #authenticplay #childbasedlearning #handsonlearning #childdevelopment #researchbased #theory #earlylearning #earlychildhoodeducator #earlychildhoodeducation #earlychildhoodlearning #reflectivepractice #continuedlearning #childrennaturally

"Play is our brain’s favorite way of learning." – Diane Ackerman I’ve often seen kids using their phones in the garden, even when surrounded by friends. It makes me reflect on how important play is to a child's development. This quote captures the essence of why play matters. It’s not just about fun; it’s how children learn and grow. If we encourage children to leave their phones behind and explore the garden, they’ll dig into the mud, rocks, and grass. This hands-on play helps boost sensory processing and creativity. As they build castles or create adventures, they’re not just playing - they’re learning in meaningful ways. Unstructured play is essential. It allows children to explore, use their imaginations, and connect with others. If parents take their kids outside more often, they won’t need so much therapy because they’re naturally developing through play. Let’s remember to prioritize the joy of play in our children’s lives! #play #childdevelopment #outdoorplay #sensoryplay #parentingtips #familytime #learningthroughplay #growthmindset #mindfulparenting #childhoodunplugged #natureplay #playmatters

For all of human history children have spent the vast majority of their time in play, a large part of it in physical play. If it didn't happen in school, it happened after school. But there is a void in after-school play time today. It is creating a developmental gap that can only be filled by giving children ample time to play in school. Need ideas? This is what we do. We are experts in play. Specifically big-body, physical play, designed to help children wire their brains to attend, learn, and succeed. #movemorelearnmore #itstartswithplay #powerofplay #mentalhealth #SEL #professionaldevelopment #experts #playmatters #movementpowerslearning #strongbodiesstrongbrains

🌟 "The best conversations with your child happen when you stop trying to teach and start listening." 🌟 At Uptus Academy, we believe that true connection with your child begins when you shift from being the constant instructor to an attentive listener. Children have so much to express—thoughts, feelings, and curiosities that help shape their understanding of the world. When we take the time to truly listen, we open the door to deeper conversations, building trust and strengthening our bond with them. By allowing your child to share their thoughts without interruption, you not only encourage their confidence but also create a space where they feel heard, valued, and respected. Sometimes, the best lessons we give as parents come from simply listening. 💖👂 #MindfulParenting #ListenToYourChild #UptusAcademy #ParentingJourney #BuildingConnections #ChildDevelopment
