1moWhile traveling in the Indian Ocean off the coast of Diego Garcia in 1977, I was aft holding the rail of the ship and sucking in the fresh ocean air at approximately 2:00AM in the morning. I noticed something glowing through the haze on the surface come out of the water and go straight up in the blink of an eye. It was approximately 1000 feet away from our freighter. Later that morning, I went to the Sparks and told him what I had seen. He told me it was a water spout. I turned and walked out of the radio room. I knew water spouts didn't glow through haze/fog. Note, I wasn't drinking or smoking.
