Stepping into the Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion role, I knew that I wanted to take a strategic approach to making DEI work for us. For those who don’t know me, I have been passionate about equity for as long as I can remember. I always found it strange that people aren’t provided what they need to be successful in life and in work. Honestly, it also felt strange that companies needed an ROI for making sure their employees and customers received equitable treatment, because we are, afterall, human. That being said, I quickly began to think more strategically because this work is vital for a healthy, sustainable, and profitable company. For OpenStax, I am taking a multi-stage approach that can also act as a cycle so we don’t have to reinvent the wheel every year trying to determine DEI goals. The multi-stage approach is nothing new or that I invented, but I’m making it work for us. Our stages are align, integrate, and sustain. We’ll start with align, focusing on why DEI is important to us. I’m curious: What have you done to reach DEI alignment within your organization? Expanding Our Reach ➡ Female Fund Founder Series: Released 5 inspiring videos highlighting female fund founders (with more scheduled): https://lnkd.in/eY8BVZTA ➡ Industry Conferences/Events: I was pleased to represent GFIN at Citi Markets Women RISE Network in NYC (May 2024) and will represent at a number of upcoming conferences, including STELLA Women in VC Conference in San Diego, CA (September 2024) and Global Labor Market Conference in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia (January 2025) Building Connections ➡ Networking Opportunities: Facilitated meetups and connections between GFIN members, including in Boston, at the Berkshire Hathaway annual meeting, dinners/lunches in NY and London, and a memorable Paris gathering with a Taylor Swift concert attended by 2 GFIN members and their daughters. ➡ Joint Events: Partnering with Women in Finance Group for a July Touch Rugby event in London, and an August Networking event in NYC.
