YES to all of this. Authenticity, visibility and listening are key. I have always believed that leaders who are able to be their authentic selves, and are transparent in their actions build credibility and trust. When a leader shows up as their authentic self, it encourages and empowers their teams to do the same. And being physically present and accessible shows commitment and willingness to engage, to do the work, and to listen to feedback.

@Center for Creative Leadership, your posts always get me thinking. Effective communication as a leader is crucial, and it can take many forms. At its core, it’s about building trust and clarity. First off, being a good listener is vital. When leaders actively listen to their team, it shows that they value input and are open to feedback. This creates an environment where everyone feels heard and engaged. Then there’s the clarity in messaging. Leaders need to convey their vision and objectives clearly—no one wants to be left guessing about what’s expected of them! Simple, straightforward language goes a long way in making sure everyone is on the same page. Another aspect is adaptability. Different situations call for different communication styles. Sometimes you need to be more directive, while other times you should adopt a more collaborative approach. Knowing when to switch gears can really resonate with your team. Lastly, a little bit of empathy can make a huge difference. Being sensitive to your team's emotions and challenges helps build stronger connections. It’s not just about what you say but how you make people feel. And, I love what you said about authenticity and visibility! So, effective communication in leadership combines listening, clarity, adaptability, empathy, authenticity and visibility—all essential for fostering a positive and productive team culture!

#2 on this list from Center for Creative Leadership resonated with me today. Being present is more critical than most people realize. When a leader is absent that is interpreted, whether warranted or not, as not caring about what is going on at the deckplates .... not really wanting to understand .... and definitely not interested in hearing from those actually doing the work. This makes trust a non-starter. As a leader you have to be physically present - you have to show up - and then you have to be truly present and prepared to listen. If people in your organization feel heard (which is not to say you have to agree with them or take action on everything you hear), but if they truly feel heard .... that is evidence that you have shown up and listened. You have the raw material for trust that builds high-performing organizations. #learningorganization #trust #leadershipdevelopment #leadershipskills #activelistening #executivepresence

Communication—clear, consistent and authentic —is critical to building trust with a team you lead. Without it, productivity will falter and you’ll lose those most committed to the work. And it’s a two-way street! Listen, too! #Leadership #Communication #Trust
