On 3rd June, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, in compliance with a Supreme Court directive, announced a mandate that would require a self-declaration certificate (SDC) to be submitted by advertisers and ad agencies on the Broadcast Seva Portal and Press Council of India portal. The SDC must be submitted before the publication or broadcast of ads. There was ambiguity and confusion surrounding the SDC. Media companies need to stop thinking of themselves as providers of “TV, Radio, Print and Digital” and start thinking of themselves as providers of “Video, Audio, Text & Images, and Experiences”.
