🌊 Today, we spotlight the Effectiveness of Underwater Venting 🚢
Dive into the innovative strides of the MENENS project, where we're at the forefront of researching safe storage and use of energy carriers. 🌐
TNO has conducted groundbreaking tests on underwater venting of methanol, ushering in a new era of safety and sustainability. Here's a glimpse of what they've discovered:
💡 Alternative to Traditional Venting: While traditional venting poses challenges due to toxic methanol vapours, underwater venting emerges as a promising alternative. Methanol, being essentially non-toxic to aquatic life, dissolves seamlessly in water, addressing safety concerns.
📊 Numerical Analysis & Lab Tests: Extensive numerical analysis showcases the effective absorption of methanol vapours by water. To validate these findings, TNO performed small-scale lab tests with a continuous venting setup (as can be seen in picture). The results are remarkable – up to 99% of the initial methanol concentration was absorbed in the water, well below the accidental exposure limit of 6000 ppm.
🛠️ Insights into Methanol Handling: Through these experiments, TNO gained invaluable insights into handling methanol, measuring its vapours, and understanding the evaporation and condensing properties. We're enthusiastic about sharing our experiences. If you want more information – reach out to Tim Slangen.
