Expanded Polypropylene (EPP) is used in industry in a wide range of applications in various industries. It is not uncommon for this material to combine with other materials, so EPP bonding techniques are required for this reason. Common methods of combining EPPs include: 🔹 Screw fixings: Foam materials such as EPP can be bolted together. Examples of bolts that work well in this case are: sys D, sys RSD, sys DR, TSSD. 🔹 Snap/Clicks: EPP is perfectly applicable for connecting by means of snap connections - technical components made of this material can be designed to be compatible with each other and connect in just this way. 🔹 Adhesive: Materials such as EPP are difficult to bond due to their surface properties, but there are specially developed bonding solutions that enable permanent and high-quality bonding of EPP. 🔹 Overmolding/Insert molding: In this method of manufacturing EPP parts, inserts (e.g., metal inserts) are overmolded into the mold, which are responsible for the subsequent joints. Here are some fun facts about gaskets (yes, you read that correctly) 1) Gaskets differ from O-rings in shape, with O-rings having a donut shape for sealing a single surface, while gaskets are used for sealing two or more mating surfaces. 2) Gaskets come in various materials, including metal like aluminum and stainless steel, as well as acrylic, glass, felt, polyethylene, nitrile, cellulose, sponge rubber, cork, ceramic paper, and non-asbestos fiber, each with unique properties requiring careful selection. 3) Some gaskets, especially those used in high-pressure applications, feature compression rings—donut-shaped components resisting compressive forces from pressurised gases, air, or liquids. 4) The most common type of gasket is the sheet gasket, produced by punching sections out of a thin, sheet-like material, forming a solid base for sealing. 5) Gaskets serve diverse purposes, preventing leaks in automotive engines by sealing passages for substances like coolant and combustion gases, offering protection against various types of leaks. So, there you have it. We would like to point out that we are proud members of the UK Gasket & Sealing Association. Who are a trade association representing the specialised interests of UK companies engaged in the conversion of materials into gaskets and seals for all types of industrial use. We would also like to point out that we are one of the only UK based suppliers of the ARISTO Cutting Solutions GmbH brand. Composites 101: Bulk Moulding Compound Let’s get into the basics of ✨Bulk Moulding Compound✨ Characterized by its doughy texture, Bulk Moulding Compound (BMC) consists of polyester resin, glass fibre and various mineral Fillers. Using BMC in the compression moulding process we can produce high-volumes of small complex parts with optimal electrical and corrosion resistant properties. The fire-retardant nature of the compound makes it ideal for use in the electrical or lighting industry. Various liquids and powders are mixed under high shear forces. Basic raw materials are resins, additives, catalysts, mould release agents and fillers. For coloured compounds, a pigment is added to the paste. The paste is then mixed with fibres, usually glass fibres. Bulk Moulding Compound (BMC) is prepared in a mixer. After preparing a base paste it will be loaded into the mixing device. Then all other ingredients are added and homogenized. The compound is packed into bags until moulding. To avoid any material changes during storage and transport it is packaged in a styrene tight packaging. BMC can also be injection moulded and this is a well-known moulding technique with BMC. Well-known products such as lighting for the automotive and mining industry are proven examples of BMC being injection moulded. The decision on whether to injection mould or compression mould will be based on the part to be manufactured. The versatility of BMCs BMCs encompass a broad range of practical applications. Thanks to their composition — which includes proportions of plastic resin, inert fillers, reinforced fibers, catalysts, stabilizers, and dyes — BMCs are incredibly versatile. Depending on the blend, a BMC could imbue any or all of the following properties in a molded product: 🔹Resistance to heat and corrosion 🔹UV stability 🔹Minimal shrink or expansion 🔹Low density 🔹Electrical insulation and stability 🔹Smoke and flame retardance They are quiet versatile, aren't they?🤩 Follow us and stay tuned for more! #Poseidonshotmeltadhesive Hot melt adhesive for Filter. Our filter assembly hot melt adhesives are designed to be use on most filter manufacturing and equipment . They are made to bond most substrates including – fiberglass, nylon, plastics, rubber, foam and difficult to bond coated paper substrates. In the filter manufacturing industry, there are many applications where hot melt adhesives are used, because they are resistant to high and low temperatures and offer fast set times. That is the reason that they are widely used in the manufacture of filters. Hot melt adhesives with fast set times are often the best choice when manufacturing air filters; because of the fast-running filter machines need a fast set time. Hot melt seals the filter frames, laminates the filter media and carefully closes the separators. Polyamide based hot melt adhesives are also used for air filters in industrial or car ventilation systems that have to withstand high temperatures. These hot melts are highly chemical- and heat-resistant – and offer strong adhesion to papers and non-woven fabrics. 🛠️ How Do You Choose Between Industrial Tapes and Liquid or Spray Adhesives? Industrial tapes are essential in manufacturing, construction, and other specialized applications. Several factors must be considered when choosing between industrial-grade tapes and liquid or spray adhesives. Assembly flexibility is crucial, as tapes provide a quick bond and immediate handling strength but lack the positioning flexibility of liquid adhesives. Substrate compatibility is another significant factor, with tapes often the better choice for bonding dissimilar materials like metals. The assembly process, including application-specific factors like workspace, regulatory compliance, and atmospheric conditions, also plays a role. Additionally, short- and long-term cost efficiency must be evaluated, considering throughput, yield, and labor. Austin Hardware® offers a wide range of adhesive solutions to meet your needs. Composites 101: Sheet Moulding Compound Let’s get into the basics of ✨Sheet Moulding Compound✨ SMC is a moulding compound made on the basis of glass-fibre reinforced unsaturated polyester resin. The industrial application of SMC dates back to the beginnings of the sixties, when the excellent electrical characteristics of this material were used for cable distribution boxes and electrical insulation. In the beginnings of the seventies SMC conquered the automotive industry. Since the first moulding compounds based on unsaturated polyester in the 1930s and the industrial startup in the 1950s this class of materials has developed into a variety of high performance polymers for various fields of application with a broad range of tailor made performances. The use of Sheet Moulding Compound (SMC) is a very important production process for the production of GRP parts. SMC is a flat sheet-like compound, produced on a continuous moving belt process. The SMC composites are made from chopped multi end rowing strand sandwiched between two layers of film, onto the resin paste (resin, shrink compensation, fillers, additives and curing agent) has already been applied. The prepreg passes through a compaction system that ensures complete strand impregnation and makes a sheet wound into rolls. These are stored for prematuring before moulding to allow the prepreg to thicken into a mouldable viscosity. Fascinating process, isn’t it?🤩 Follow us and stay tuned for more! The end-cap, although it can be considered one of the most basic components of the injection units, still plays an important role during the moulding phases. Starting from the simple supply of spare parts up to the choice of the correct cylinder end-cap, Euroviti can be your point of reference. Understanding why you keep on having black dots, stripes or fast wearing issues is something that we can easily understand since it could be that the solution you used for years may no longer be the correct one for your current application, for example, its composition (1 or more pieces fixed together) or its internal design might be wrong if you use some technical polymers.
