Wednesday evening I had the wonderful opportunity to attend the Elevate Comminity event held by the Manasota Black Chamber of Commerce. Not only did I get to meet some new people—which if you know me, you know how much I loved that—but I got to listen to three amazing panel discussions revolving around the importance of DEI in the community. I really didn’t want the event to end and as usual was almost the last to leave. Some of my takeaways: “Partnership is POWERFUL”—in discussing supplier diversity/procurement and how a larger company can parter with a smaller company (less resources, opportunity and access) enabling BOTH to win bigger. This concept and belief that when someone else wins we ALL win can be drilled down to any level. “Identify artificial barriers and REMOVE them”—review your job ads for requirements and ask yourself if the requirements are truly necessary for the job Community is essential—coming together in community, for community to build and maybe in some cases rebuild with a loving critical eye. The results we heard about — job creation and retention. Tarnisha Cliatt thank you for welcoming me and for a wonderful event!

"If we don't do it today, there won't be a tomorrow" Yesterday, I attended the 'Black on Bay' lunch. Panelists spoke about their journeys in Corporate Canada. Overcoming challenges. Collaborative solutions. The esteemed panel of Konata Lake, Kurankye Sekyi-Otu, Stanley Julien, and Lori-Ann Beausoleil, moderated by Colin Lynch seriously delivered. They discussed: Corporate challenges → navigating 'token hires' Giving back to community → uplifting one another 'Equity' and 'allyship' → outcomes and support are key Their stories were powerful and real. But this conversation wasn't new. That, to me, was the biggest takeaway. And as a corporate professional. As a recruiter. As a leader. The only way to foster success is to support and uplift others. Now. The longer we wait to change, the longer change will take. Support each other → we all rise together Thanks to Chandran Fernando for purchasing tickets for myself and Nifemi Osundina to attend the event. And for encouraging me to attend, despite needing to wear flip flops with my suit due to my foot injury... 🙃 -------------------------- I guide careers in the Commercial Real Estate & Development industry Follow me for hiring, career development, leadership, and industry insights If you enjoy my content, ♻️ with your network 🙏

At big events like the DNC Convention, attendees spend all day listening to speakers… and by midweek, they’re exhausted and disconnected. So when New Politics hosted our events at the convention, we decided to do things differently. Instead of adding to the endless lineup of presentations, we created a space for real conversation. No formal program. No one talking at you. Just time for people to connect and engage freely. One elected official put it perfectly when they found out we weren’t doing a speaking program: “God bless you.” It was clear people were grateful for a break from the usual routine. This choice to prioritize connection over passive listening was intentional. The goal at New Politics has always been to build a genuine community - and you can’t build a genuine community without genuine connection. After years apart, the convention was a chance to re-engage in person without the pressure of another formal agenda. One guest even described the event as a “family reunion.” Ultimately, leadership doesn’t always mean taking the stage. Sometimes, the most powerful thing you can do is create space for others to connect. By stepping back, we allowed deeper relationships to form between people from all walks of life - and THAT is how we strengthen democracy.

The Most Influential People in the Event Industry in 2024 include many people we all know and many tech people, some of whom we know. It has been a crazy year with lots of pluses. The list is presented in alphabetical order and contains the likes of many we see/communicate with regularly and tend to forget the load they bear. Each voter is allowed ten votes. I went to the end of the list and started backward. You can find the list at https://lnkd.in/eRMpN5xc. Once you pick your choices (you must log in to vote) and reach 10, you leave the site and can go back to edit because it retains your choices. Many of our industry leaders are on the list, such as Paul VanDeventer, Annette Gregg, CMM MBA Carina Bauer CED, Sherrif Karamat Amy Calvert Michael Dominguez, FASAE, CHSE, and folks like Tyler Davidson Tahira Endean, MsC, CITP, CMP, CED, and so many others. My choices were tough, but I noticed that few were asking for votes. I hope you find time to cast your votes for your preferences. Again, the link is https://lnkd.in/eRMpN5xc.
