I've been doing some work for the ANA's Aquila business, and in that capacity I'll be attending the ANA Masters of Marketing conference Tuesday through Thursday.
Totally unsolicited plug: the ANA does a great job on conferences, I've been impressed at every one I've attended. Looking forward to this one.
Registration is still open for the Montana Range Tour that will be held June 20, 2024, in Stanford, MT. This educational event will feature a tour of the 2023 Leopold Conservation Award winners Kurt & PJ Myllymaki’s ranching operation.
The Montana Range Tour is an educational field day for ranchers desiring to learn from others who are leaders in implementing innovative on-the-ground grazing and agricultural practices.
The cost of MRT is $65 per person and includes the tour, presentations, a banquet breakfast, and lunch. Transportation from Lewistown to Stanford is also provided. Event registrations end 5/27/2024. Reach out to Shantell Martin at (406) 531-4584 to sign up!!
According to an analysis shared by the World Resources Institute and Global Forest Watch earlier this month, primary forest loss in Brazil and Colombia lessened dramatically in 2023 by 36% and 49% respectively. However, data also shows that, while strong policies help reduce forest loss, the world has a long way to go to get back on track to meet 2030 forest goals.
Discussions around forestry, biodiversity and its impact are, therefore, more vital than ever. Our Forestry and Agriculture Investment Summit (FAIS), positioned at the nexus of finance, government, and ecology, seeks to delve into topics like The Global Forestry Landscape, The Emergence of New Investors into Forestry and Nature and much more.

We also announced the 5th Virtual ChemBio Talks, which will happen on Tuesday September 30th, 2025 with keynotes Sarah O'Connor and Craig Crews.
If you enjoyed today's event, already mark your calendars!
Yesterday, after the conference ended, Samin Merrikh and I spent the day exploring San Francisco before our flight home.
One of the most important things for me to see was the Sea Lions at Pier 39 in Fishermans Wharf.
As a lover of animals, it was incredible to see hundreds of them laying on floating platforms a few feet away from us.
In the 30 minutes we spent there, the two Sea Lions seen fighting in the video caught my attention the most. The entire time we were there, they were fighting each other(markedly funny, the other sea lions were completely unbothered).
The sea lion that got knocked into the water first, went 0-3 against his adversary. But he kept coming back for more. I couldn't help but be inspired by his resilience and perseverance.
In a lot of ways, I felt connected to the sea lion for never giving up. Cold calling and sales is similar, in that you may lose the first, second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth time, but you may win on the seventh, eigth, ninth, or tenth.
There is no way to know exactly when the tides will turn in your favour, but if you stop trying, you ensure defeat.
Notably, every time the sea lion came back, his approach changed slightly, whether attacking from a different side, using a different move, or striking when least expected. In the end of the video, we even see a shift in arena from terrestial to aquatic environment.
The sales equivalent is when leveraging a multi-channel approach, multi-threading, and consistency. Just like the sea lion battle, timing is everything.
*Disclaimer* - I am not a marine biologist. I don't know whether the behaviour was normal, or what the end result of the sea lion battle was. I hope they were both okay and it was a healthy social interaction(akin to how my colleagues and I wrestle in the office).
Thank you Jade Nilsson-Byberg for inspiring me to write about the similarities of sea lions and sales.

Discussions are in full bloom with our client partner WFFSA. Some of the best ideas and direction come from in-person meetings with the Board and other volunteer leaders.
Do you meet with your Boards at least 1 time a year in-person? What has your experience been?

Our committee meetings in sunny San Diego have just wrapped up! It was a pleasure to recap this year's successes and strategize how to carry that momentum into next year in service to our members and the industry.

Just released from American Forests: a special short documentary called "Year of the Cone." It follows our crew working in Oregon's Fremont-Winema National Forest, and their work to survey and monitor cone development.
Did You Know: There's a narrow 3-4 week window in which cones are ready to harvest, and thanks to their efforts, we currently have a specialized climbing crew down there that is collecting the thousands of cones that will one day become forests that cover former severe burn scars!
With your support, AF is working with partners on the ground to build up the national supply of seed:
🌱 We are bringing land managers, seed orchards, and contractors together to study seed shortages and coordinate to build networks of partners dedicated to growing seed supplies.
🌱 We are managing wild seed collection on forest landscapes across the nation.
🌱 We are growing and training an entirely new workforce of seed and cone collectors.
🌱 In urban areas, we are enlisting the help of our local communities to help build seed supplies.
🌱 We are also investing in innovative solutions to scale up our seed orchards – which can provide a stable source of seed for decades.

Missed BBC's The One Show featuring The Wild Oysters Project?
Now you can catch it on BBC iPlayer! https://lnkd.in/eDPfhjWxVicky Pattison visits The Wild Oysters Project and gets stuck in helping the team of marine conservationists and volunteers to monitor the mature native oysters housed in Sunderland marina.
The Wild Oysters Project, a partnership between ZSL and Groundwork NE & Cumbria is funded by the Stronger Shores project. Together our aim is to help improve the health of our coastal waters through the restoration of native oyster reefs.
Native oyster populations have declined by around 95% in the past 200 years, with the significant decline resulting from a combination of habitat loss, over-harvesting, pollution and disease.
When healthy and thriving oyster reefs, are hugely productive and help a rich biodiversity of associated species to thrive. They can provide important fish nursery ground habitat, with the potential to supporting commercially important species such as seabass, sea bream and edible crabs.
Together, we are determined to bring the species back from the brink of extinction, which will in turn will help contribute towards healthier and more resilient coastal waters across the UK.
