There are pathways into tech in non traditional ways. People told me, I didn’t believe them, until it happened. In fact, for tech jobs and software engineering, there’s speciality programs that support and give chances to those with unique backgrounds. Hint: use “rotational engineering” and “engineering residency” in your keywords to search for these programs!

Stop calling the software engineer position - "middle." It just doesn't make any sense. Get it - you have Junior and Senior positions - titles showing engineers' seniority. Middle - means the distance between two points, one of which is the beginning, and the other one - is mainly the end of some stage. For example, middle age is between childhood and old age, and middle school - is the distance between elementary and high school. Both show the beginning and the last stages of the process. In the case of senior engineers - it is only the beginning of the fantastic careers of IC engineers. You can become staff software engineer and grow higher, you can become one of the tech archetype of staff ( go check book "Staff Engineer: Leadership beyond the management track" by amazing Will Larson ), or even move to management track. So, the middle - does not show engineer being in the middle of their career. And yeah, if you have a "Middle Software Engineer" title in your company - you need to put more work into planning a career ladder for your people.

This week I've just reflected on my career for the past 5++ years in Enterprise and General Software Development. I've seen people becoming Staff Engineers, Senior Engineers, Tech Leaders, and Software Architects in just 5-8 years of experience. I realized that most of the time they contributed a lot to the improvement of the organization instead of just coding. They're focusing on the domain problem and can translate effectively the technical codes into a business language but that is not all, they also have these: Value, Validation, and Visibility. 1. Value - They give futuristic value to the organization. They understand what is necessary for the team to move forward. 2. Validation - Their work can be seen internally and externally. They're being validated by his/her team and industry peers. He/she is a subject matter expert on something. 3. Visibility - They're obvious inside the organization. People know they can give value and they're being validated by it. Most of the time he/she is the point of contact for a certain domain. These may not be the exhaustive list of how these people succeed in their careers but these are the evident ones, IMHO. #techcareer #opinion #enterprise

Have you ever wondered why software engineers are in such high demand in the U.S.❓ The answer lies at the intersection of innovation and necessity. 💡 As we navigate through the digital age, software engineers are the architects building the bridges between complex technology and our daily lives. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics highlights a projected growth of 22% in software engineering jobs from 2020 to 2030, significantly faster than the average for all occupations. https://lnkd.in/d8TJKYih. 🔹 The future of software engineering is not just about coding—it's about creating systems that are smarter, more integrated, and more intuitive. 🔹 The rise of artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies means that software engineers need to evolve and adapt continuously. They are not just engineers; they are visionaries who play a pivotal role in shaping the future of how we interact with the world. Software engineering is not a static field; it's a journey of continuous learning and adaptation. The best engineers are those who are curious, always learning, and always pushing the boundaries of what is possible with technology. As we look to the future, the trajectory of software engineering is clear. It's a path of growth, innovation, and endless possibilities. The demand for skilled engineers is not just temporary; it's a long-term trend that reflects the evolving nature of our digital world. #softwareengineering #usmarket #techcareers #digitalfuture #innovation #edenhiring

Three ways an experienced software engineer can stay relevant as a job candidate in a competitive job market. ⬇️ 1. Highlight the valuable skills you already have - If there is a niche language you specialize in, double down on it and position yourself as an SME. 2. Consider leadership roles - If you’ve worked as an individual contributor for a while, you may want to consider taking on a leadership role as a team lead or engineering manager. Even if leading others isn't your thing…it could be the next right step for your compensation and career. 👉 Plus, you can always stay hands-on while in the role - creating two versions of your CV to emphasize either once you’re ready to move on! 3. Learn System Design - System Design is indispensable to the modern software landscape. For experienced software engineers, this offers a leadership opportunity — with an understanding of System Design, you’re not just following instructions but are instead actively participating in shaping the vision and functionality of a project. How to Successfully Reenter Software Engineering After a Break? Answers: https://lnkd.in/gk8yUEMm #SoftwareEngineering #CareerTransition #LearnToCode Hey everyone! 😊 So, here’s the scoop: I graduated with a degree in Computer Engineering three years ago, but life took me a different route. I ended up stepping away from the tech world for a while (due to feeling like I wasn’t cut out for it and some mental health struggles). But now, I’m in a much better headspace and ready to jump back into Software Engineering! I've started going through my old notes and, wow, I realize I have a lot to relearn. It’s safe to say I’m a bit rusty on algorithms, data structures, and all that coding goodness! 🤔 That’s where I need your help! I’m looking for recommendations on how to: Relearn the fundamentals: What resources (books, online courses, etc.) do you suggest for brushing up on core concepts? Build my resume: Any tips on how to showcase my skills? Should I work on personal projects, contribute to open-source, or something else? Chart a path to my first job: What steps should I take to prepare for an entry-level Software Engineering position while juggling m...
