I have not posted much since the end of year last academic term. One of the items some of our parent community asked me to outline was our Ib diploma and IB middle year results. Oftentimes this is used to compare our school to other schools. I have never thought this was a great comparison. It has been my experience that a great many schools massage the data from their programmes. The data not shared is often of more importance of the data that is shared. As both an educator and as a parent I would like to know how many students are in the cohort and how many students took the full IB diploma. This shows the strength of the programme as opposed to the strength of pre-selected individuals. In our case we have 100% of students taking the full diploma. In our case the pass rate was 98% (and the one that did not pass is taking re-takes in November). We have about 65 students in the graduating cohort. Finally, the average is an important indicator. We achieved a score of 33 and a bit. It’s a very solid score with a very good passing rate with a large cohort (for the region). We were hopeful for better but we are also quite happy on the decent scores for a number of our students who have not always been academically strong. Ultimately that’s the point. There is no great advantage for a school to do well (except in marketing) but these grades have an impact on our students’ lives and determines either the university they will attend or the support they receive to get there. In that respect we are pleased. We are also pretty happy with our IBMYP results with a school average of 41.84 (out of 56) giving us an average subject mark of 5.23 out of 7. A number of students leave us for various reasons after IBMYP (usually academic or sports scholarships at other schools) and our remaining students will have an entry of 43.28 from IBMYP. With our normal large incoming cohort we hope this is a good sign for our programme. #IBDPresults #IBMYP #IBSchool #Kenya #Boardingschool #InternationalSchool
