TL;DR: I'm excited to have my course '40,000 Years of Music Technology' featured in Northeastern Global News. https://lnkd.in/eydw2x3C For the last few semesters I've taught an incredibly fun course called . In this course, music history is framed less by iconic composers and pieces, and more by the unbroken lineage of musical tools and their functions—both heard and unheard—in the near, medium, and long-term human record. Rather than names and dates, I aim to place today's open questions (ex. AI, neural prosthetics) within the continuum of our attempts to relate to ourselves, each other, and the transcendent through tools that don't reduce, but reflect our own complexity. Concerning the violin, I can play exactly four notes reliably: G3, D4, A4, and E5. That's four more than I can play on the Theremin, reliably.
